Having worked here I noticed that the website data was not accurate. The class sizes for academic classes is closer to 35:1 as the total population is now close to 1,100 students. The populations are predominantly Latino/Hispanic and Caucasian with small growing populations of Russians, Marshallese and African American.
Houck is an AVID example school which is helping increase college readiness for students, resources and has encouraged more parent involvement, I think this is due to some of the long term staff involved in AVID, those teachers demonstrate incredible care and support to the students.
The clubs and activities are lacking, the few they have they cancel, so students are not able to find a niche unless they play a sport or are in the after school enrichment academy. I believe these are the main reasons the school culture is lacking. They students and staff need a reason to believe they should be proud to be Huskies.

This school is trash, giving a 1 star is 1 star too many.
There are physical fights between students daily, students have been found with weapons and making homemade weapons at the school, and a child had a gun pulled on him at the beginning of the school year.
The resources provided are very limited. Teachers are not able to provide proper or consistent instruction due to disruptions by students.
Students aren't being monitored by adults to enforce safety. Students do not get reprimanded for using profanity or for using explicit sexual language and content. Additionally, students are being asked by other students to send inappropriate photos to other students every day without disciplinary actions.
My student was repeatedly threatened with physical violence every day. The school had a school shooting threat recently and they never even closed the school for safety.

Horrible school. My son would come how almost 50% of the time crying because of a teacher. I had to apologize to my son before sending him to school.
