The people are probably the best part about it. Teachers are (mostly) friendly, administrators are nice people, custodians are accommodating and fellow students are alright. The facilities are quite nice, even though there seems to always be construction going on. My only major complaint is the counseling department, they seem like they don’t do anything except make schedules. Food is alright, and the sports coaches are awesome. The choral and band programs are also an amazing part of the experience. Definitely would recommend sending students there.
All of my teachers were nice, good people. Some of the classes tended to put a large workload on you. I do not enjoy the recent hybrid schedule we have been put on due to the corona virus. I wish we could have more in-school days because I don’t like online school.
I have enjoyed going to Hornell High School. There are many opportunities to get ahead by taking college level classes such as AP classes, classes through Alfred University and Classes through Corning Community College. Not only that, being a smaller school were like a family and the teachers are always there to help any student in need and also sincerely care about their students as well.
The students and staff are very sympathetic and helpful. I am very glad I was able to meet all these people. One thing I would change is that there should be more variety of clubs and activities to do.
Priorities are athletics over everything else. Many faculty and staff behave like they are still in high school.
Many teachers at my school are committed to their students. Many stay beyond the time they have to after school or are available before school starts. Many teachers who teach AP classes will teach and grade assignments like how it will be in college. One subject in particular; AP Comparative Government and Politics, the tests are all AP style questions that prepared students for the AP exam. AP Literature and Composition is set up as a "discussion" type of setting, where students can openly ask questions with the teacher and to each other.
they dont get as much recognition and student participation as they should
I liked going to this school a lot and wouldn't change it for the world. I was very involved in the music program and student government. This school has lots of opportunities for students to be involved in some way and our athletics are well known
Many of the teachers here stay longer than they need to and out in more effort than they are required to. they are genuinely concerned with how we are doing with us. Not only that but they actually take the time to get to know the students and establish a relationship with them. They may be worried about their test scores but over all they want us to succeed more than anything. We have had to deal with some budget cuts but the teachers make do and teach to the best of their ability. all of the one that i've had were engaging and applied real world applications to every lesson.
Parents are always there to support any school functions
They are always willing to help
This school is very nice and I have enjoyed attending so far. I do wish a few things were different like educational funds being used appropriately and fairly. Football and the boys locker room seems to be this school's top priority. Art and band education is underfunded and getting books for 11th grade government was a struggle this year and funds had to be borrowed from student government.
I would not change going to this school I love my boces class, one of the best things about this school. Ive mad a lot of friends here and am friends with most of the people in my grade.
I think our policies are very good and they are pretty good at keeping students in line.
Our sports are okay they are some what strict about the education which can be hard on some of the students.
Our teachers are very good at having time for students when they need it and are always available.
Our extracurriculars are not bad but more should be available to the students.
