Horizons Center for Independent Study gives the students the opportunity to learn independence. It teaches the students how to manage their time and work without having to be told.
I joined Independent Study my freshman year and I love all my teachers, they have helped me prosper in my high school career. You have one on one appointments with your teacher and this allows for an excellent learning experience. They allow you to take control of your learning and I have met some of my best friends here.
The teachers are dedicated to the students' success and offer as much support as they can. It is the responsibility of the student to succeed, but the school makes it easier. I like being independent and working at my own pace while still having the support of my teachers.
Excellent staff where teachers care about students. The focus is not just grades but overall development of the child as they get ready for real world challenges.I will certainly recommend this school to anyone who wants to try out homeschooling. You may love it and not want to leave it !!
Horizons Independent Study School provides outstanding opportunities for students who (1) can't go to regular school because of other commitments (e.g., sports); (2) want to finish school faster; or (3) don't like going to regular school. Each student at Horizons gets an individual advisor who helps you through the year. Advisors are wonderful: very knowledgeable and caring! You get free help for math! Plus you can complete courses at the local community college earning college and high school credits at the same time. Love it.
The staff takes into consideration what the students want to see changed about each of the programs. Every staff memeber has taken the effort in building a relationship with each student so that if anyone needs help or advice they can go to any staff member for help. The teachers work together harmoniously and the results are amazing, students can get their work done and can get any help they may need.
Our school's staff is limited, but there are just the right amount. The teachers and staff build a relationship with you easiliy and they let you know that they are open to talk to you about anything. If something is troubling you they will actually take the time to listen to you and help you through it.
Even though the students do not normally see eachother they do get together for occasional events. Horizons has held a cook off with Prospect High as well as art shows displaying student art. This past December they held a bake off to show off their creative Christmas Spirt. Horizons finds ways to make an independent school united

Horizons CIS is one of many alternative education programs on a single site. We have a credit recovery program called Prospect High School, which I attended for half a semester; the teachers are very accomedating and really push the students to succeed. We also have also have a homeschooling program, adult education center, and a middle school on campus. There really is something for everyone.
We may only see our teacher for an hour once a week, but they make sure they catch up on anything special or troubling in your homelife as well as any academics you may not understand. They all have their own special qualities but, they truely work together as a team.
You basically get to choose how much work you do and how fast.
I have definitely used a lot I learned going here for the real world. I learned how to be self sufficient and get myself learning and doing what I need to do.
I had a great time going here. I got to learn many skills for life. I got to pick how I wanted my classes to go and got to really be a part of the learning process.
Regular classes necessary to graduate.
Great teachers who care about their students.
Very safe, zero tolerance policies.
