This school isn't perfect. In fact, from the 10 years that I've been going to HSA I can say that it is very much far from it. From my point of view, any student's experience at HSA will depend on the effort put by said student. If they put time and effort into their classes and extra-curriculars, they'll have an amazing experience. If they don't focus on that, they'll be like the many students who attend her that simply put the blame on the teachers or staff for not having a good learning environment, which really isn't true. All the teachers are willing to help out and be your friend so much as you show that you care. It's as simple as that. The only real gripe that I have had in my time at HSA is that during our high school experience, there were so many times where our college advisor was either really unresponsive or terrible with her timing. As of now with the current advisor, be ready to do a good chunk of college research and paperwork on your own when you really need it.
This school was very welcoming as its small in classes size. The teachers here care about your work and how you can succeed after high school. The school has many after school programs you can get involved in.
It was a positive environment and functioned decently. There was a lot of issues where some students got away with everything. It felt like there was no discipline for a student who broke the rules.
This school has been an absolutely amazing opportunity I have experienced. From the classes and academics to the clubs/activities.
Love this school! My children have been attending since KG and the teachers are so dedicated and really care for the students
For the many things this school excels at, it seems to fail at just as many in other areas. The biggest and most glaring problem is that there is a clear separation in the kids destined to succeed, at least in terms of scores, versus those that need "extra help." I can't know how to create the perfect school system but separating the "smartest" kids into their own "gifted" classes while the rest are grouped up and made to stay behind in a cycle that will only perpetuate the problem, is certainly not compatible.
Some of the staff have inspired me to the fullest extent and I will be eternally grateful for them. If you have had the opportunity to meet them, you would understand. Then there's the certain staff who let their positions get to their heads and have just about the most inflated sense of authority I have ever seen.
Final thoughts, if you end up in the right group, you'll have an easy time. If not, there's not much you can do.

I love my school. They help me so much on achieving my college goals. I am proud to be at HSA and cant wait to graduate next year!!
My experience with Horizon Science Academy-McKinley has been a fantastic experience for my last two years of attending high school. As a student who has attended other high schools moving from state to state, I find this high school to have all of my academic needs met compared to my previous schools. I would highly recommend this school to any student from any background because the teachers and staff are very accepting of their new students and accept the same from current students to give everyone a well and great welcome. From attending bigger high schools where I felt lost in the pack, I felt right at home with the ambiance of this high and I was constantly asked if I required assistance of any of my academics. Along with that they highly push for STEM learning and making sure that every student is prepared for their core classes for the future in college and beyond.
Loved the small school environment, it really allowed me to learn better and have a better relationships with my teachers.
I have had an iffy experience with Horizon Science Academy. There needs to be better attention paid to clubs and extracurriculars available to the students, as well as the academic opportunities given to the students.
I didn't enjoy my experience at Horizon Science Academy the environment was not it. The students were about drama and the teachers didnt care about the drama ad only cared to assign work after work.
I use to love this school but it has change. The person in charge isn’t really nice. He has his favorites. When it first open it was about grades now anyone gets in.
I am very satisfied with my enrollment at HSA McKinley Park. I enjoy the relaxing learning environment enforced by our students and faculty.
I think the way the teachers taught us was pretty good. They helped me to remember and value the lessons they taught us. One thing that did bother me was how there was a lack of clubs that suited my needs, they were more catered for sports and math competition people. The lunches are also poor, they are prepackaged hot meals and I wish it was something like a regular high school.
I have had a really great experience at this school I love it. I have had such a great time at this school I love all the teachers.
Tell other about your experience. What did you like about Horizon Science Academy - McKinley Park. What would you like see change?
Horizon science academy has been a really great school for me, they have always been on top of our stuff. Our school is a very friendly environment and helps us with anything that we need. Our school also has a lot of good programs, clubs and ect. This school has had this program called CYSP which is a program that helps a lot of students to complete their community service hours through out their high school year and other activities that will look good in your high school transcript, and that is one of the things that I liked most about this school that they prepare you for college.
Overall Horizon Science Academy Mckinley Park is a really great school! Teachers and students there have a bond and we can easily go to anyone there for help on almost everything. Only problem is that I wished it felt more like a high school for us older students there.
My experience at HSA McKinley Park has been overall good. You have a great amount of help when it comes to approaching one to one conversations with teachers. The school provides tutoring which really isn’t offered at other schools. The environment is safe and welcoming. Something I’d see as an improvement there would be providing more help to students who don’t do well in school besides focusing on those who are going to big colleges.
This school is small. There are small classrooms, one on one interactions with students and teachers. The school also offers a lot of clubs and activities for the students to partake in. The schools learning material is easy and students have a different rang of classes, from AP courses to honors classes to regular classes. It is easy to keep up at this school and teachers are willing to work with students who are struggling and need extra help. Tutoring is provided for every class on a weekly bases.
