This school got me where I needed to be academically, however there is a lack in teachers teaching what their actual degree is in. I have been there my entire education and found my closest friends there.
I think that the academics at the school are absolutely amazing, if you pick the right classes. I have taken all honors class when I can and I have had the best teachers of my life. There are other classes I have taken that are some of the worst teachers I have ever had. The school does have good academics overall however it can be very stressful. Oftentimes, some teachers assign homework just to assign it. The teachers that are passionate about there jobs are incredibly helpful and have taught me life lessons as well. There are definitely cliques at the school and being a new student freshman year it was a little hard to make friends because the school is K-12 and everyone has their pre-established friend groups. I definitely do think that the school is safer than a public school because we don’t really have fights and the worst I’ve seen with drugs is weed and vaping. I would definitely prefer Horizon to Desert Vista nearby but it’s not perfect. Overall, there are flaws but it’s good
Best parts - small school, safe, very nice students and teachers, focus is on education and balance of life.
Worst parts - its a small school so you do not have that many AP classes and DECA and things like that.

Horizon Honors, being a public charter school, is actually one of the best schools I've seen in the area. As a senior, I've gotten to know the school fairly well and have a good understanding of how the student experience at Horizon feels. Academically, there are teachers at this school that are amazing in their field. We have psychology teachers that actively worked at mental institutions, history teachers that worked out in the field, and even a chemistry teacher that was employed by the U.S. Government. This school encourages friendly competition among students and is very academically oriented. Unlike some other schools though that care moreso about their best image, Horizon encourages *all* students to try their best rather than turning some away or towards an easier path. That's why this school remains one of the best for college readiness and for teaching students vital skills. While the school culture here is not for every student, it certainly has helped me grow.
I love this school simply because I was looking to be challenged and I got exactly what I wanted. The school provides a lot of AP and honors classes, the teachers are very happy to have their jobs for the most part, and the community is amazing.
The staff here are good and the academics are next level. The name has the word “honors” in it so you assume you’re going to get that type of education.
I really like it for the most part, the class sizes are small and there is a a good sense of community. I learn a lot and the teachers are super nice and flexible. The teachers also care and want to ensure that you do well and are prepared. I only wish there were more ways to get involved and get more students together.
Horizon Honors has a variety of amazing teachers and opportunities to just get to know yourself, while still being an academic based school. This is the place where I grew up, and while it still has some kinks to work through. It does help set you up for college, providing a great environment for developing awesome relationships with people since it’s still a small school. Horizon Honors offers a variety of programs too that allow students to learn what their path truly looks like. Overall, Horizon Honors is a great school, and it has left me with a bunch of valuable memories.
I enjoyed that horizon honors was a serious place of education. Most of the kids there strive to go to good colleges and want to go into respectable fields of work. I also liked that everyone is disciplined in their study’s as well, since everyone is striving too succeed all the students are disciplined in most classes and get homework done on time. I also appreciate how the teachers give us work that is going to apply and help us when we are out of college. My school also lets us take classes such as personal finance which I think is good to help set up students for after college. One of the most prominent things that I don’t like about my school is the competition. Since everyone is striving to succeed, it can create a competitive environment among the students. It is hard to feel like your hard work is enough as the students around you are working equally as hard and are getting the same or better grades than you.
While Horizon has some teachers who really care and student support to help students not get left behind, it is a really small school, is short on teachers, and doesn't adequately help you prepare for college.
Most of the teachers are very good at their jobs, some not so much. The small community is wonderful for making connections with teachers and classmates. Though there are not as many opportunities as larger schools.
Great small school environment, great teachers! The science teachers have been hit or miss but overall has been a great experience.
It’s a school that becomes like a family, very good if you need a smaller safe school. Despite being smaller there are plenty of opportunities.
There are plenty of opportunities to have one-on-one attention with the teachers, which makes learning much more interesting and engaging. The small community is a great size and not overwhelming for those who dislike big crowds. But the best part about attending Horizon Honors is that the school understands that multiple choice/standardized tests do not accurately reflect a students' ability to learn, and their tests and quizzes that they make reflect that.
Horizon Honors prepares students for careers that will last them after high school. Additionally, the curriculum is challenging and manageable. The teachers are also working tirelessly throughout the year in order to provide the best education and learning environment for their students.
The school and teaching is amazing! I just feel like sometimes I’m in a bubble with the other kids that go there. We’re all nerds and social interaction isn’t normal. I do love how the teachers are so supportive and really want us to do our best. They want us to succeed. We have all these extra opportunities to be able to get extra help or learn something new. The school is fast paced, but they cater to you and your needs. You aren’t just a number there, you mean something. It’s a great atmosphere to grow in.
Horizon Honors Secondary school is terrific. I came to the school in my freshman year from out of state, not knowing anyone submersed into a whole new environment. Horizon supported me and let me experience the enjoyment of learning from my devoted teachers and peers. I learned how to achieve my academic goals while balancing my busy outside life. I feel supported by my teachers, and like they want me to succeed. I love that my school provides after school help and support and a time to talk to teachers and do homework. I love that they encourage community service, and this pushes my peers and me to go out into the community and learn more about what is going on around us in the world we are growing up in. It gives us a chance to work in the community and make an impact on others. I am thankful to go to a school that prepares me with life values, fosters my love of learning while giving me a quality education learning how to be the best independent well-rounded individual I can be.
