This school used to be a fantastic place where everyone felt like family. In recent years, it has gone incredibly downhill. While most of the teachers are compassionate, talented, caring individuals, the administration is lacking those qualities. Bullying is prevalent but no official investigations are conducted. Test scores are embarrassingly low. Several teachers either don't have a teaching license or are licensed inappropriately. The older students will manipulate administrators into giving them privileges that other students do not have. Sexism is a huge issue. The school seems to be more of a money-making project for the church, rather than a mission to serve families. Not a single person on the administration team has an administrator license. Most have never taught full-time (or even have a teaching license/been through a teaching program), yet they feel comfortable making decisions that impact classroom learning.
I had nine years at this school. The kids are perfectly fine and overall, they aren't nearly as bad as in a public school. The dress code isn't the greatest, but it's not the worst possible situation. What gave it a 2/5 is the administration and the head of school. A lot happened, and I do not agree at all with the way they handled it. My mother was also a teacher here and they fired her for not being a good enough christian, though they said she was an amazing teacher. They also backed up a coach who wasn't going to let me be involved in senior night for volleyball, even though I was a senior. Now, my sisters are leaving the system because of how much they hate it. There is also slight racism, I would say. One kid got expelled for having a nose peircing who was mixed, and another kid can get off with a warning if they're white. Overall, I don't want to go back to this school anymore, after everything that they had done to my family and I over this past year at the school.
It's a small school, but a good school for academics. There is plenty of diversity at the school. Also, the food was pretty good because it's catered food from places which is good. The sports could use some work but, it's also a small school so it's hard to have big teams for sports.
Horizon is pathetic when it comes to academic standards. It is important to understand that I graduated five years ago so what I am saying should be taken with a grain of salt.
Horizon is a good place when you agree with everything that they teach. Dissenting is frowned upon and changes the way people are treated. We were taught to view people that were not conservative evangelicals as projects to convert. The information that we were taught about other religions and even non-evangelical Christianity was extremely inaccurate and grounded in Anti-Catholicism, Anti-Semitism, and Islamophobia.
Science education was taught through religious beliefs any engagement with Science (i.e. Evolution) was "Hitler believed it", and "the Bible says so" with zero credible evidence to back their claims.
We walked out unprepared to engage with the world around us and we were brainwashed to believed non-Evangelicals were enemies.

Horizon has been a wonderful experience for our family. Smaller classroom sizes, teachers who are genuinely concerned for student growth are a huge plus. There are also opportunities to be involved in different activities. I also love the emphasis on biblical character being instilled in our kids.
I am a senior at Horizon Christian School and I have been extremely blessed to attend a school with a very strong Christian community with awesome teachers. They encourage us to stay strong in the Lord and teach us how to build our relationship with Him! Staff is super kind and is there to talk to if you are struggling with anything. They really care about each student and their individual needs. Chapel is awesome with worship and a message lead by our head of school. The staff and faculty do an amazing job of showing the love of Christ to us. I would recommend this school to anyone who is looking for a great faith based school!! I hope you really consider this school. I have had an incredible experience.
I love my school very much. It is a small Christian school with a beautiful campus. The small community makes for a lot of attention in the areas of school I struggle with, and accountability in my spiritual growth. The teachers are loving, caring, and supporting of all students. The campus is also a beautiful part of the school that they like to take advantage of wherever they can. i.e. walks in the woods, rock clibing wall during P.E., class outside when the weather is nice, and praying in various locations on campus. I would change the unity of the school though. Although it is very nice, I think there is room for improvement. I believe they are going to try to achieve that this year.
I started going to Horizon my sophomore year and was welcomed by both staff and student. It has a great environment and the teachers are amazing. I would recommend to any student who is looking to find one on one time with teachers and a good group of friends.
My experience with Horizon Christian school was amazing. The teachers were so helpful. It didn't matter whether they were busy with some of there own work or if they just got done helping four or five kids that came before you. They always found time to help you no matter what. Not to mention the atmosphere at Horizon was great. The teachers and administration made it a priority to make everyone feel needed and welcomed. I feel like the main reason that it felt that way was because of a saying that Horizon had, "Be third". The meaning of this saying is, God first, others second and yourself last. this wasn't just some saying that the teachers had on their walls and that they would say every now and then. This was a moto that they lived by. the only regret that I had while I was attending Horizon was that I only got to spend my junior and senior year there. I wish that I had my whole high school career there.
Horizon Christian School is not just a school, but a great home for a student to feel welcomed and accepted. My experience at the school as a student was amazing. Nothing compares to Horizon. The teachers and staff take the time to get to know so that you can achieve in the academic standpoint.
This school changed my life. Horizon's staff is amazing so helpful and care about each individual student. When college time came around without me even asking they helped me sign up for colleges, get scholarships, and SAT sign up and preparation. Horizon is such a blessing in my life and an amazing four years.
Horizon Christian is a great school that really gives you a family atmosphere. Everyone is so caring and really cares about you outside of the classroom. The teachers are all encourgaing and willing to help with whatever is needed. It truly is a great school that anybody would be lucky to attend.
I am SO glad my parents sent me here in middle school. This school is so amazing. Every teacher cares about every student and wants to guide them. Academics are amazing. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and I don't find it hard to keep it that way. There are many club options including robotics, chess, and more. This school has improved even my home life as it's helping me to grow in so many aspects. This school is unquestionably the best school I've ever attended.
I have attended Horizon Christian School for 13 years (K-12) and recently graduated this past year. I have absolutely enjoyed my time at Horizon. Many of my close friends and fond memories are form playing Soccer & Basketball. Another unique class that Horizon offers is Beyond the Horizon, where we are treated as adults and we think beyond High School and College. Through that class I have found a community like none other, as well as countless serving opportunities with my peers. The staff and faculty truly focuses on their students and offer extra help from one on one with a teacher, or simply answering questions in class. Also, Horizon has plenty of ways for students to challenge themselves academically. I personally took AP Statistics, Dual Credit English, and Dual Credit U.S. History to push myself, but also to gain college credit by saving money while I was in High School. Overall, Horizon is a fantastic school for anyone who is looking for small community, academic learning all from a Christian perspective.
Sadly, most of our teachers did not have degree in what they were teaching. They just had experience in that particular subject so they qualified for the job.
The building didn't have much. A lot of the rooms were very small. The only technology that we got to use was computers. The guidance counselor was awesome and she was a close friend to me. We didn't have any college prep resources, but we did tutoring opportunities. Not that many, but they were definitely a thing at my school.
Your probably going to get annoyed by this but once again, my school was small. Everyone knew each other which limited a lot of altercations. People stayed close. There was a total of two minor fights the four years that I was there.
