Horizon Christian School Reviews

Horizon is a good school on paper. It looks good to colleges because of all the required AP classes. But inside it’s another story. It is the same as the public school just on a smaller scale, you will still find students doing drugs, kids will still be bullied with no help from teachers, and kids will still be engaging in intimate relations. The only thing separating it is that you are forced to attend biblical classes that will impact your gpa and chapels that push what the board feels makes a good Christian. Punishments for breaking rules are non-existent if the student doing it is on good terms with higher ups. It’s not a school to improve in it’s a school that is set up as a rehabilitation center for troubled kids; they just learn to be better hiders. Many of my fellow alumni have trauma from this school. When asked if Horizon was a good school many of us replied “yes but no”. It gives opportunities but no preparation for the world outside. I would never send my kid there.
I know many who appreciated their overall experiences, but also so many who are still healing from the trauma from this school. If you were a child in a conservative Christian home, the school's teachings & environment were not as affecting. Although in my opinion over 50% of the school's students were raised within loose Christian values, or none at all. They needed to try harder to create a safe environment for those struggling with their beliefs and identity. They are teaching children who are in a huge developmental stage. Questioning the world & how they fit in it! I personally had a traumatic experience at Horizon. One of the biggest factors was how they dealt with it for the young women in the school. I could write a book on my issues with Horizon, but they need to do better. They need to reach out for input from past parents & students to get a better understanding of how they should continue their education within our growing & diversifying community of the Gorge. DO BETTER.
Isn't a bad school overall. Could definitely use more experienced teachers. The school does have a nice community though.
Horizon is a below-average school and does little to prepare students for college etc. Lots of conflicts-of-interests that hinder students ability to learn. The school has outstanding potential and is nestled in a beautiful place, and it boasts a nice campus. It's once you get inside and with some (definitely not all ) of the faculty in their secondary program that you will begin to feel disappointed. They are consistently good at sports. Overall, unimpressed.
What I like most about Horizon is the teachers. The teachers are all so caring about you as a person. Because it is a small school, the teacher to student ratio is large as well so you can always ask questions and get help from a teacher. What I would like to see change is the amount of clubs and extracurricular activities and an increased variety of electives.
Attended for 15 years, the teachers genuinely care about the students and push the to strive for their best.
I enjoy my school, and love the teachers! I'm just tired of the current students. I love my class, though.
Leadership Team provides amazing food. For the most part you bring your own food.
I love the teachers! They are at a personal level and are very willing to give their time to help a student.
