Horizon Charter School is an outstanding independent study program! The teachers and staff are truly dedicated to the families they serve. Many clubs, field trips, and activities are available as well.
Horizon's High School staff is amazing! The partnership between Supervising teachers, highly qualified subject area teachers, counselors, and parent educators creates a personalized, supportive, and inclusive environment that allows students to thrive. Students can participate in a variety of clubs to deepen their personal areas of interest. This year the Leadership Club organized a prom for all Horizon high school students!
All three of my kids homeschooled in elementary school. My son came back in high school and was able to do dual enrollment at the community college. He graduated last year with a full semester of college completed!
Last Friday Horizon put on the best prom ever with 91 students complete with a DJ, disco ball, and announcement of prom royalty.
The high school staff and the Horizon Leadership club worked so hard to make this a successful event that our students will not forget.

Love the support that Horizon has provided. We can homeschool with great support from our teachers. We have access to high-quality education and Horizon promotes a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Horizon is amazing school that works hard to meet the varying learning styles of its students! Horizon has a space for everyone. The teachers are amazing and care about their students.
I liked the supervising teachers, who seemed invested in the students. I liked the online options. I did not care for the ODL vs VLI options and not being able to work ahead in some classes when the point of the independent studies is to work at your own pace. I don't see the point of holding students back from working ahead in these programs. It's also very difficult to find the information on the website many times and communication from the actual school is slow. But again, the Supervising Teachers really try to help out and get what you need.
Horizon Charter School is a school that offers independent studies. I love how I can advance by taking college classes while in highschool. Because of this, I have been able to take various college English classes and even get an idea of what I would like to do after graduation. The counselor I got is great at their job and strives to answer all questions I may have about graduation and entering college. The school offers zoom classes and tours with different colleges to be better informed of what it is we may need to be prepared before entering college. I love how my ST is on top of everything and makes sure to reach out to all their students if they need anything. We also have meetings with out ST every month to see how we are doing and any updates. The school is efficient and I find that I am completing my studies at my pace while at the same time they make sure I am not getting behind. I find that this school is much better than that of a public school.
The teachers are nice but things are always changing. One year I took a cosmetology class, my teachers kept getting fired, I wasn't given the supplies needed to do the class, and I got an F. However, they have a wide variety of classes to choose from and a nice budget.
I loved my school, the teachers always accommodated each student and made sure that everyone understood the coursework. The teachers were so kind and even let you come in after classes and ask questions, review what you did wrong on previous tests, and created an environment that was open and made the students excited to learn.
horizon is an amazing charter school. my whole time there I felt a sense of community and always had someone to talk to. this school really focuses on helping the student achieve their academic goals and providing a place that is well diverse and excepting. when rating this school I would give it a ten out of ten because my experience was so great. everyone from the counselor, to the teachers, and even the students were willing to help with anything I needed.
I'm in the process of registering my son for enrollment, and the process has been surprisingly strange and frustrating. I've been in communication with two staff members, neither of which are welcoming or particularly helpful. They seem put out to know that I have questions and would like to know more about how the school functions. It makes me wonder if there is something off about the school's work culture and environment. I'm hoping that the teacher we're assigned to will be much more helpful, friendly, and forthcoming with information. The staff members I've been in contact with don't appear to have the training or instinct to communicate professionally or effectively. Not to be petty, but they use incorrect grammar and punctuation in their emails, which would normally be none of my business, except that they're representing a school, which has me questioning the school's ability to teach academics correctly. Altogether, it's all very weird.
I would recommend Horizon Charter Schools to every student! I have had an amazing experience in my 4 years of highschool with them. The teachers are very understanding and work with you as much as you can. My favorite thing is I can sleep in and still get all my schooling done for the day. :b
I only started attending Horizon as a senior. I really like the flexibility that it gives you as I only have classes twice a week and everything is done online. It gives me a lot of time to do other things that I would be otherwise unable to keep doing at a traditional school. It is also nice that many of the teachers are helpful and seem to care about their students.
Horizon Charter was flexible. The teachers were super communicative about what we needed to do to fulfill requirements for graduation. They are a great alternative in comparison to my former public school because of that flexibility.
The experience that I have had through Horizon Charter School has been like no other. The teachers and counselors at the school treat you as if they are your one-on-one tutor rather than a teacher to get you through a class. Throughout the school year there are many opportunities for students to advance their education or get some extra help if they need it. I would absolutely recommend Horizon Charter School to anyone.
This school has many extensions located in Auburn, Roseville, etc. Online work and very independent!!
I really enjoyed Horizon Charter School while I was there and really feel that they prepared me for college.
Great school! They care a lot about every student and offer a lot of programs and options for kids of all learning levels.
I loved the opportunity to grow and learn in this environment through Horizon Charter School. My time here has developed me into an excellent student and I have been abel to excel in college because of the great preparation that happened here.
