Hopkinton High School Reviews
Rating 4.14 out of 5 230 reviews
The academics were great, but the social atmosphere was unhealthy. I was bullied as a freshman and sophomore by both students and parents. As a 14-year-old who didn't want to cause any more trouble, I didn't inform the staff. Despite being yelled at and called vulgar names in the hall, missing copious amounts of school, and being harassed at school events, no teachers noticed or intervened until my parents went to the school after our house was egged twice. The school system does not have an adequate bully prevention system and it has a terrible bully resolution system.
Teachers hold high expectations for students and want to see them succeed. With the intense academic environment at HHS, doing well is a major stressor for most students. Even though it is stressful and rigorous, the education I received (with a majority of honors-level courses and some AP courses) prepared me incredibly well for college. Some of my fellow students made the high school experience tough, and there is a lot of casual racism and bullying within the school. I had many "social" problems, and HHS did not handle them how I think they should have been handled.
My experience at Hopkinton High School prepared me well for my future in college. However, I did feel that the environment created at the school makes it tough for students as learning and earning good grades felt like a competition. This can be a good thing as it pushes students to do well and is the reason for the overall success of the school. However, many students struggle with mental health-related issues such as stress and anxiety.
