Hopewell High School Reviews
Rating 3.39 out of 5 402 reviews
Since my arrival to Hopewell High School, my experience hasn't been too bad but not the best either. If we're talking about academics, the classes provided aren't too bad. There is a Cambridge Program here which is similar to AP level but it would be considered honors although it's higher level than honors. I wish this school was an IB program to be able to take advanced classes that colleges would take into account for. One of the things that I liked from this school was somewhat the sports. The teams weren't too bad and this year, the men's varsity soccer team broke records that last occurred over 10 years ago! One of the worst experiences is having to experience lockdowns very frequently over 2 years ago because of the amount of fights and threatening situations. I was questioning if this school was safe to attend or not. But, it has progressed over time and several things has improved. I would like the school spirit and the culture to be more bright and motivating to students.
I've been a Hopewell student for all four years of my high school career. I am currently a senior, varsity cheer captain, and student body president. Since freshman year, I have been working my way up in student government and becoming a leader in the school. Hopewell's staff members have made this an easy task for me. Hopewell's faculty and staff offer many opportunities for students to achieve excellence in their community. Hopewell offers resources like the Cambridge program, Communities in Schools, CPCC Dual Enrollment, the ACE Program, CTE courses, and more. They make it their goal to make you successful in high school and after high school, no matter what your future plans are.
I think my school is extremely flawed, but of course it absolutely has pluses. I belive three are our JROTC, Theater, and Band programs, they are incredibly well received regionally. However several flaws permeate throughout Hopewell. It's incredibly diverse both racially and class-wise, however violence and disobedience is prevalent. Many teachers are regularly leaving year by year due to the inability of admin to counteract the actions of unsocialized students. Many of the "no child left behind" ideas are shown and their cons with them, however it's also the fact that those in the cambridge programs are given greater rewards and precedent, me included. I think there needs to be a rapid shake up in hopewells administration so they are more willing to counteract flawed behavior.
