Hoover High School is a diverse school that motivates students to be engaged in classrooms and outside of school. Throughout my four years at Hoover High School, I've witnessed and have been a part of the college-oriented environment that is implemented there. I am a part of Cardinals Interact which is a college-preparing program that works closely with the Rotary Club. Cardinals Interact is exclusively available for Hoover High School students which helps them throughout all their years to prepare them for college and life after high school. This program helps the 50 selected students(out of 140 that apply) with support in many areas including: resumes, field trip opportunities, FAFSA and more. There are many opportunities at Hoover High including Drivers Ed, IMIN (an after school program that hosts different events every day), Young Women's Study Club, and more. Hoover High students are offered countless of opportunities that help mold their path into their future college life.
Hoover High School is an anomaly, It's a school that is seen as ghetto simply because people have a preconceived notion about certain races. What they don't see or better yet choose to ignore is the strength of the students that go there. The strength of students who travel for hours for education. The strength of students who despite all their issues at home are in school every day for a better life. When you speak negatively about us don’t forget to ask why. They seem to ignore that us "ghetto" kids from Hoover are the way we are because we cannot fight a system that was built against us. They will never understand the strength it takes to be called racial slurs and not react. It is so hard to consistently fight a fight in which the victor was already chosen. But at Hoover High, we're taught to keep fighting against it all. From a principal who encourages strength within every student, to teachers who strive for our success, Hoover High School is a great school and forever will be.
