Hoover high school is overall decent experience that I’ve went through since all 4 years of attending. The school is very diverse meaning there’s so many ethnic groups and surprisingly can see that students and staff get very along well. My favorite year was my senior year because that is when I came to realization that I spent 4 years of my life there experiencing many emotions that continues to push me to succeed . It's also a year when I have realize that its time to grow up and face the real world. Hoover high school taught me many lessons and reflection this includes activities, soccer, orchestra, and from the staff and students.
Hoover is a decent High school with a very diverse community. However, there are several AP classes that are unavailable to students at Hoover and they have minimum programs to join.
Hoover High School is very diverse. The teachers and staff are all great and if you enjoy sports you definitely have a variety to choose from.
It’s a very diverse and welcoming community that is in touch with other schools. At hoover many students share each others culture and educate others on their experiences in life. The teachers are often very nice and welcoming and work to benefit the students.
Very many cultures and self awareness. They are very diverse and have many opportunities available to the kids. Each teacher is interested in their kids learning and involvement. They try and make you keep focus and study hard until you walk the stage. The food is pretty good, lunch is kind of sad but they have vending machines. If you work hard enough you can accomplish a lot with the resources you have around you. Each student is different but is always accepted with opened arms. No child is left behind and no child is forgotten.
I used to love Hoover until I no longer felt the support i used to from the staff and administration.
I like that Hoover High School is very diverse. Over twenty foreign languages are spoken by students at Hoover.
I like that the school is big enough to have multiple activities, but not so big that everyone can participate if they want to.

It’s alright... pretty average and very low in academics. Great diversity. Teachers don’t expect anything from you really, and a lot of the projects/assignments (or labs if you’re in chem or bio) are super lame and way below high school level. Really nice if you’re a student tho cause it’s easy to graduate lmao. Not the best college prep & counselors are kinda pushy to get you to join AP or honors classes. Oh, and lots of army dudes visit to recruit uneducated, broke high school kids :/
I really like the diversity of my school and the freedom my school gives me. And yet at the same time, they also enforces strict rules if needed despite the given freedom. Teachers are respectful and often show concern about their students and find ways to motivate students.
I liked the diversity in the school. I felt that the staff and teachers I was able to meet and have in class cared about the students. However, there is a lack of diversity of classes offered and there are many behavioral problems within many of the students. At some points I didn’t feel safe and felt like my quality of education was declining. I also didn’t like how the school district didn’t listen to the students, or hear their opinions.
Something that i liked about Hoover High School is that it is a very diverse school with people from all walks of life and cultures. Which helps broaden ones horizons by learning about others perspectives.
My experience with Hoover High School has been very mixed. Throughout my four years there, I overheard lots of nasty rumor with the students at the school. Although not common, fights occurred from time to time. The classes Hoover had offered me were lacking compared to places such as Central Academy. Hoover doesn't seem to motivate or challenge me hard enough, but when I'm there my life is more relaxed and stress-free. I believe Hoover has some quality points, such as the staff and teachers. My senior year especially, had new staff, who were able to tone the violence down. The counselors and college advisers were able to help me a ton with scheduling and college. If I were to make some changes, it would be to add more classes, such as photography, math, or other courses. I believe a school should emphasize the importance of exploring many career opportunities.
Hoover is an incredibly diverse school, in fact it is the most diverse high school in the state of Iowa. I also feel my teachers have better prepared me for college. Hoover offers counselors and financial aid representatives to help students be both mentally and financially prepared for entering either college, a trade school, or the work force. I've also had many opportunities to talk to my teachers one on one, focusing on where I'd like to take my career path and also how I plan to execute this plan. My teachers have been helpful in motivating me to pursue my interests, and better my talents by seeking opportunities to push me. Aside from the teachers I have gained relationships and friendships with students over the past many years that I won't forget.
I really love my experiences I have gotten at Hoover. It truly is a great place to spend your high school. The teachers and administration try very hard and do extremely well with what they have. I have rarely seen any type of bullying go on at Hoover and most people get along. Students come from all over the world, as Hoover is the most diverse school in Iowa, so there is a lot to learn from peers about different world views and experiences. The education is not top tier but Hoover is a part of Central Campus and Academy in downtown Des Moines so there are still a lot of opportunities to further your academics and trade experience.
To be honest, I blame myself for not taking advantage of all the opportunities that come with high school, which is why I'm only giving it 3 stars, but in general I liked how diverse the school was, but this despite it being diverse everyone sort of stayed with their own respective group. While diversity is huge, showing it and encouraging it are two different things. Through the limited programs that I did participate I came to be aware that Hoover does not promote their clubs very well leading to a shortage of members. As mentioned before Hoover has a variety of kids there is absolutely no reason for clubs to be short on members.
I enjoy the diversity and wide range of people at hoover. The classes can be at boring, and I find that not everyone shares an enthusiasm for learning. Many times teachers must waste time ensuring student engagement and cannot provide engaging and challenging education. The band program is great, though like many other aspects of the school (it is a public school) it lacks the funding that could help the program excel. Class sizes and lack of funding also contribute to the inability of the school to provide the challenging level of classes some students would like. Though STEM centers, and the IB program, are a strength of the school.
Hoover is a very diverse school. There's not just one certain big race, because it's a combination of all ethnicities and cultures.
