I enjoy the diversity and wide range of people at hoover. The classes can be at boring, and I find that not everyone shares an enthusiasm for learning. Many times teachers must waste time ensuring student engagement and cannot provide engaging and challenging education. The band program is great, though like many other aspects of the school (it is a public school) it lacks the funding that could help the program excel. Class sizes and lack of funding also contribute to the inability of the school to provide the challenging level of classes some students would like. Though STEM centers, and the IB program, are a strength of the school.

To be honest, I blame myself for not taking advantage of all the opportunities that come with high school, which is why I'm only giving it 3 stars, but in general I liked how diverse the school was, but this despite it being diverse everyone sort of stayed with their own respective group. While diversity is huge, showing it and encouraging it are two different things. Through the limited programs that I did participate I came to be aware that Hoover does not promote their clubs very well leading to a shortage of members. As mentioned before Hoover has a variety of kids there is absolutely no reason for clubs to be short on members.
I really love my experiences I have gotten at Hoover. It truly is a great place to spend your high school. The teachers and administration try very hard and do extremely well with what they have. I have rarely seen any type of bullying go on at Hoover and most people get along. Students come from all over the world, as Hoover is the most diverse school in Iowa, so there is a lot to learn from peers about different world views and experiences. The education is not top tier but Hoover is a part of Central Campus and Academy in downtown Des Moines so there are still a lot of opportunities to further your academics and trade experience.
