Hondo High school is a good school overall. The system has good protocol for keeping students safe. The teachers are mostly nice and friendly to the students which makes the environment more friendly. The only fault is that the staff needs to listen and be more lenient to the students wants and needs.
I like that Hondo high school has such a tight knit community, and that the people in the local town would show their full support for the students in the community, even if they did not know them personally. I felt very welcomed and cared for by numerous people. However, the academic atmosphere inside of the school could be tough to deal with at times, and the programs that were offered through the school weren't the best, but overall the school's environment made up for it. The memories that I made throughout my four years at hondo high will stay with me for the rest of my life, and my closest friends and I plan to stay in touch for as long as possible.
Has good music programs as well as sports. Academics are okay, can be more connected with students when it comes to the next step after highschool.
Hondo High School is very small. Most of the teachers are great but there are a few problems. Dress code is ridiculous and they have us put our phones into phone parking lots. My problem is that with the dress code there are boys with shorts shorter than 5 inches above the knee and holes above the knee, but girls are the only ones that get into trouble. They get so strict over the stupidest things which end up disrupting class more than the clothes do. Same with the phones. Putting them in the parking lot causes so much distraction. You may forget to grab them on your way out, one phone may ding an everybody needs to check. It's more distracting than a student having their phone out.
My experience in highschool was wonderful because the teachers were helpful, encouraging and caring. The staff provided a safe environment and believed in their students. They also created activities and programs to make the school more fun, and they also asked the students of what they can do to make the school a better place. They tried their best to help every student to learn and flourish in school.
I like the athletic program at Hondo High School. Our coaches show they really care about us and helping us grow into young men and women that will be successful.
My experience at Hondo High School was very reserved I kept to myself majority of the time. I liked the school spirit. The school really has nothing it needs to change its an average high school.
Hondo high school is a great place to get a better education and advance your skill sets! The school offers dual credit classes and advanced placement classes so that it’s students are prepared for the college level of education! On top of that, our school also offers life skills classes so that the students who are not looking towards college can have some prior knowledge and experience for their future jobs! Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of funding for my school. Buildings are old and there are just as many roaches as there is students. Books are old and there’s a set amount of computers available to the students. However, despite its flaws, there’s no other high school of rather be a part of!
I like how it’s not too big and not too small, it’s small enough to where you know everyone in your class
I went to school here and graduated in 2018. We had pretty good academic teams and a spectacular band. I participated in theater, Tennis, the Science club, UIL academics, and BPA.
It really just depends on the people you know and how you put effort in the classroom and how well you comprehend with the teachers.
Hondo does not budget well for their fine arts program and seems to focus more on unnecessary purchases for their athletic program.
What I like about Hondo High School is the camaraderie among fellow classmates. What I would like to see change is a longer lunch period.
I would appreciate it if the kids at Hondo would try to put more effort into academics as much as they do athletics. In other words they need a 180 turn around.
In my experience of being a Hondo Owl, I have noticed there is great school pride. HHS really does give you a sense of family, especially through hard times. (Such as when a true friend to many, Mj Deleon tragically died this year.) No matter what administrators and teachers are always there to encourage you, and push you to strive for the best. The only thing I would change about HHS is the lunches. Being a freshman this past year, and having to stay for lunch was surely not the highlight of my day. I'm just going to tell you the food is nasty. One way I would make it better is have a survey during advisory, to get a general idea of what the students like. Never the less HHS is a great school, and i wouldn't ask for a better place to have my high school experience.
I enjoy how involved the students are with sports and just how much school spirt there is. We believe that we are the best, and we have the spirt to choose it. I would like to see the school offer more dual credit classes as well as foreign language classes.
Hondo high school got me prepared to the best my abilities for college. Teachers would work so hard to make sure the information being taught was well known to students and they would stay long hours after to tutor students also.
