Homestead High School Reviews
Rating 3.9 out of 5 284 reviews
Homestead was and is an overall great school. In terms of academics, there is a wide variety of classes that fit your interests. I am currently involved in a lot of medical and health-related classes at school. The AP program and class offerings at this school is diverse. The teachers at Homestead ensure that we are learning in a way that helps everyone understand and feel comfortable with what they are doing. Homestead also provides an "AVID" class which is dedicated to college preparation, being extremely effective to developing organization and skills needed for the future. It's a great academic environment to be in; however, there isn't enough attention being brought to students' culture and safety. There are multiple cases in which students are being bullied for their beliefs and identity; and the administration doesn't do as much as they're supposed to honor those victimized of bullying at school. Other than that, I am proud to be a Highlander at Homestead High School.
Most of the kids are spoiled and stuck up, but there are definitely many students are are really great. Pretty cliquey, but there’s definitely friends for everyone. Many teachers are overworked and under-qualified, often stretching themselves too thin. Usually newer teachers struggle a lot. Overall the school spends a lot of money on sports teams, renovation, the arts, and upholding the Homestead image. There’s tons of extracurriculars so there really is something for everyone, but administration is lazy and only involved in things they know could go public. They have yet to address the issue of recycling bins being emptied into the trash, which has been an issue for almost a decade, as well as other issues.
I will be attending Homestead High School for my fourth year this year. I can honestly say that my Homestead is an incredibly safe and healthy learning environment. Although some classes can seem useless to those not interested, there is so many classes offered that anyone will find their passion. The school is very clean and only slightly outdated in some areas. The teachers and students are all very welcoming and I have always felt as if I am being prepared for college. Overall my experience at Homestead has been great and I wouldn't want to attend to any other High School.
