I like the academic challenges given to me at Homestead High School. My favorite would have to be the Latin program, which I fell in love with, especially due to the teacher, Magistra Wallach. Latin made me do something I never saw myself doing. I ran for the Latin Club Board at the end of my freshman year, and to my surprise, won! I loved being Parliamentarian so much that I ran and won again! After serving as Parliamentarian for 2 years, I decided to run for President at the end of my senior year. This school year, I will be the President of the Homestead Latin Club and cannot wait to grow as a leader and person.

My main issue would be the administration's focus on athletics over academics. Yes, Homestead's athletic program is great and accomplished, but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be a balance between the two. Athlete/Sports team success is highlighted more often than academic achievements.
Review Homestead High School
I feel Homestead has prepared me for college because of its great academic offerings. I have also participated in many clubs and sports that are provided. The resources are amazing. One example is the writing lab, you can stop by the writing lab to visit an English teacher to help review your essay/work. The teachers do everything they can to make everyone feel included and receive the best learning experience. If you need extra help, the school provides mentors and resources to adapt to the student's needs. It also has a great football program which provides for a great community feel every Friday night under the lights. The academics are marvelous and many rigorous classes are offered to help prepare students for the future. Most students continue their education at a 4 year university or institution. Also, the counselors are very helpful with the college application process.
The school offers a variety of honors and AP courses. Teachers that teach those courses are EXCELLENT, very engaging, fair, challenging, and know the students really well. Teachers that teach regular courses are average. Overall I feel that my daughter is getting a great education. We generally stay uninvolved and just check the grades to make sure she has enough room to fail and correct on her own. But sometimes she brings back some stories or questions about various subjects, and we discover that things they cover in class make my husband and I start discussions that we sometimes even carry over to the challenging conversations with our friends. The school really makes her (and us) think!
