Homer Senior High School Reviews

Since we came out of the pandemic, I've noticed a lot of the teachers seem to be stuck in the past, and seem lazy. Lots of my classes have been hard to learn in because the teachers don't interact with the students as often as they used to. For instance, there's been a lot of assignments where the teacher will tell you "Watch the video and then fill out the sheet.". Seriously? How can we learn like that? On the other hand, there's some very good teachers who teach how I'd expect one should. Sports teams here are very good, some of the best in the Central and Upstate New York region. The school facility and campus itself is overall good. With a recent rebuild of the High School gymnasium, cafeteria, and auditorium, and addition of a new band room, there are lots of great facilities. The track and turf are also fairly new and in great condition. Something that should be considered is renovations of the classrooms. The classrooms are simply not well kept and falling apart.
I enjoyed attending Homer High school, it was a perfect small town high school where everybody knew each other and it was very friendly. However the small town thing really brought the school down 2 stars. You can't get anywhere in academics or athletics without having a popular last name whether your parents attended the school or a sibling.
Homer High School is just like any other high school, sports are an important part of the school's culture and mostly everything revolves around that. Not many activities to participate in besides sports and it didn't prepare you well for college unless you took courses meant specifically to do so. Academics were okay, but to get the most out of them you had to have taken advanced/honors courses. The worst thing about the school was the overall diversity.
