For the 7 years that I attended this school, it seemed that there was somehow a disbalance present in the fact that there was SO much parental supervision but SO little benefit from it. You WILL get in trouble for talking too much, but you WON'T get in trouble for doing drugs in the bathroom. You do have to worry about people caring that you have a different sense of style, or that you're gay, or not Christian, but you don't have to worry about people caring if you get sexually assaulted or bullied. There is a really bad "sweep it under the rug" problem at this school, and you will have a LOT of other kids' parents up in YOUR child's business. Don't take your kids here to 'shelter' them. They won't be sheltered from any kind of evils of the world, they'll just experience all of those bad things AND lack the socially interactive spaces to develop any of their own interpersonal or social skills. Take care of your kids and be kind to them. Consider their needs and feelings too.
Flexible hours, decent teachers. I would say that the establishment seems to have deteriorated since their official move to Battleground. The large influx in students contrasts poorly with the less professional teachers and more flexible academic plan. However, it did give me the potential to finish my associate's degree while in high school easily.
I started going to River Homelink when I was in fourth grade. As I progressed, I found just how unique my new school is. I got to know some of my closest friends there, and all my teachers have been helpful. Even though I faced academic difficulty and people with all sorts of different views on life, I had my teachers, friends, and parents to help me. I could be the person I wanted to be without feeling like I was going to get bullied. My teachers gave me plenty of opportunities to explore my interests, and I have learned not just more about math, English, and history, but how to be a good team player in society. River Homelink has been a major part of my development as an artist, a writer, a scholar, and, most importantly, a person.
