My experience at Holy Spirit was a challenge and a great experience because I learn so much value in life and learn how cope with situations and optical that I face daily on a spiritual level. I gain so knowledge and mortal in my time there. The best things for me was the academic and sport organization which I participate my last four years. The worst was not involve more than I should have and not enough extra activities for students. Overall it was the best years in my life. All faculty and teacher as well as principal made you felt welcome.
I would say the academic curriculum is well above average, but the school management isn't great. As a minority student, my son dealt with a good bit of prejudice from students and even some teachers. The administration was notified of this but never acted to prevent racial bullying during my son's time there. This was concerning considering it is a "christian school."
In terms of academics, this is the place to be! I feel that Holy Spirit has provided me with challenging coursework that has set me ahead for higher education and also helped me develop individuality within my values. In terms of community and acceptance, much can be improved. The social environment can make or break a place. It is what puts a downer on the school for several high school students.
Holy Spirit is a great environment for students. They have really good teachers who care about you and your grades, they will do anything to help you excel. The class rooms are small which he’ll with a better learning experience and the students are very nice and helpful
Not interested in readiness of the student or meeting the student at their need. Not interested in anyone questioning anything. Not ran by true administrators. Teachers discuss pay and problem concerns with students. It is overall a less than option in Tuscaloosa and the Diocese is unwilling to respond to any issues or concerns so you are left without any way of working toward solutions. Elementary school is ran with a different approach than the middle and high schools. Do not recommend past the elementary level.
Great private school. Small class sizes allows students to get one on one assistance. I highly recommend sending your children to this school.
I attended Holy Spirit within the last couple of years. Academically, I never found myself challenged or pushed to excel by the teachers or the administration. I genuinely believe that the grade one receives is almost solely dependent upon how much a teacher "liked" you (if you were in god squad or not), not the quality of one's work. I found the facilities to be lacking. Mathematics were good but didn't go farther than calculus 1, English was good(if you were in god squad), Science was a joke, History was actually great, last and certainly least was religion. In religion, another student and I turned in the exact same essay only changing our names and the teacher didn't even notice. Unfortunately, this might be the best education one can get in Tuscaloosa, and that's sad. My final recommendation is don't raise a child in Tuscaloosa, unless you would like your child to be underdeveloped in almost all academic fields.
Teachers are wonderful! Beautiful Christian culture! Academics are highly stressed, and the school has an incredible music program.
A wonderful, supportive environment that combines the history of the Catholic faith with academics. I attended Holy Spirit Catholic school from sixth grade and the transition was easy. From day one, l had many people help me with class needs and emotional support as l was new to the school. The theology classes gave me great incite about the Catholic faith and l feel capable of talking to others about my faith because of what l learned in class.
Holy Spirit is a decent school but it lacks a football team, a just boys and girls soccer team The education is ok but it is good in Math and Science
Great school! Good atmosphere, nice people, great teaching staff. They honestly want tepheir students to succeed.
I have attended Holy Spirit Catholic High School for 15 years and would not have wanted to grow academically or spiritually in any other school. Since the school is much smaller than most, everyone is very close and we get to share in our growth. This school has not only helped me to prepare for college, but also for life. They have taught me about the real world and the secular world. As I go on in the future, I know I can look back at my high school days and remember all of the great memories the school has brought us and how they have made us the amazing people we are today.
Great school! I've attended Holy Spirit since Pre-K3 and I've loved every minute of it. Great for college readiness, and academics are in the forefront. We have a great XC team, the second best in the area, so if you're interested this is the school for you! Great music program as well. Nothing but laurels
There are a variety of clubs ranging from National Honor Society to Scholar Bowl. Teachers are very supportive of these clubs and ensure that students have the opportunity to meet frequently each month, before or after school, in order to participate in activities.
Holy Spirit has allowed me to learn more about my faith and has allowed me to further cultivate my values. Unlike any other school in the county, Holy Spirit has further incited in me the desire to help others in my community and the world beyond. Through service day activities and food drives, I have been able to contribute to those in the Tuscaloosa community. I have been able to truly understand what it means to be a leader in my home and in my community.
Most teachers are very enthusiastic about the material they are teaching. There are, however, a few teachers that are annoyed by students who ask "simple" questions. Overall, teachers allow students to truly understand how the subject material is applicable in real life situations.
This school is fantastic. They hold the children to high standards both in academia and personal. They attend Mass weekly during school. They pray everyday lots of time per day. They are taught respect, humility and pride. I would not give anything for what we have learned at Holy Spirit. Add caring teachers and fantastic principals and you have a recipe for success! We are a family...not just a school.
