Holmstead School has a great environment. Every student feels respected and it is a place for students to attend if their own high school has not worked out. I have never wanted to miss a day of school since transferring their because it's low anxiety.
Some activities that were really cool compared to other traditional schools that I enjoyed were cooking, yoga, hockey, and bowling. Also I was given access to Rosetta Stone for French. That was a huge benefit because I have issues with language learning due to central auditory processing issues. Also, any student who is capable could enroll in any AP class and be the only person independently working toward their own goals.
The school guidance counselor was very helpful. I would highly recommend this school to anyone who needs a small school and small class environment to succeed during their high school years.

I attended Holmstead years ago after cycling through several similar therapeutic schools with limited luck. Every school is going to tell you that they have passionate staff and that they really care, but Holmstead really stood out as unique because their unwavering dedication to their students spoke for itself. Thanks to the support I received at Holmstead, I went from nearly dropping out of high school to coming out of college at the top of my class. Sometimes all you really need is someone to believe in you more than you believe in yourself, and that's what Holmstead gave to me. Every school will have its pros and cons, but Holmstead stands out as peerless in the realm of special education.
I enjoyed the caring nature of the teachers and other students. My sister now attends this school and she loves it! A safe learning environment that is a good alternative for those who cannot succeed in a typical academic setting.
I love Holmstead, students are very similar to one another in some ways because it is a therapeutic school but everyone has diverse opinions and stories behind why they're there.
The nurse is very sweet, and she lets you lie down if you feel ill. However, she doesn't have a range of medication or resources to help the students due to the large factors that it is a small school and she has a tiny office.
While there are a handful of knowledgable teachers at Holmstead that I have been fortunate enough to have, many teachers go off the book and are lacking in their motivation to teach. Some also use teaching materials from other educational sources and are unfamiliar with the material.
