Throughout my four years at H.L. Bourgeois High School, it has constantly prepared me for college and to face adulthood. The experiences have allowed me to learn many lessons about myself and how to make improvements along the way. Many failures I have taken in stride, and I am glad to have overcome to push myself further to succeed! I live by a small motto: "I CAN, I SHALL, I WILL SUCCEED!"
H.L. Bourgeois was an A school when I graduated, but they only got there because the administration forced the students with low test scores onto the Jumpstart plan- which they didn't get the score from. The students had to protest the administration one year because the administration would not allow students or teachers to show their sexuality. The administration cared more about taking away people's legal rights than protecting their students from teachers and coaches. Students reported bullying all the time, and the most they did was an anti-bullying seminar. Some of the teachers that teach there are amazing, and they know what they are talking about. If I ever had to go back, it would be for those teachers.
My overall experience at H. L. Bourgeois was very good. Most all of my teachers inspired me to push myself to a higher level of education. Looking back at my high school experience it was not my education that sticks out, it was my bonds with coaches and teammates. My cross country coach (Heather Martin) has taught me more in my life than any of my AP and honors class teacher. She taught me how much perseverance is needed not only in sports but in life. Not only did she help me push through my life's difficulties but she helped me accomplish things in cross country that I could never imagine.
H. L. Bourgeois does not have the means to hire certified teachers. This is just a few of the problems we have on campus. The faculty is also very distant from the student body. Instead of trying to fill us with school spirit, they try to force feed information for state testing on us.
