Will be graduating from here in 2022. Came here from a very small, conservative private school, and Hinsdale South was such a welcome change. We may be small, but the community here is so inclusive and amazing. The teachers care about our wellbeing, and I felt I could reach out to any of my teachers whenever I had a problem, academic or not. Academics are also very good, but it's up to you to push yourself (very good prep for college!). Since we are pretty small, you get to know (almost) everyone in your grade pretty quickly, which I find helpful in remaining close with my peers. It's easy to find people from every background, which cannot be said for our sister school (HC). For the most part, students are very down-to-earth, and the teachers have strong South Pride! A community like ours is definitely hard to find. Only thing that's not great is the politics in our district and unequal resources between the two schools:(
I love Hinsdale South! It's truly a great school with teachers that are so welcoming and kind. There are a ton of clubs to join, and it's easy to feel a sense of community and belonging there. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing department is amazing and is very accommodating and helpful. I love that students have the opportunity to take American Sign Language classes.
School has taken a overly relaxed attitude about homework; as if it doesn't count for much. I do not feel like my son is receiving proper preparation for college. He claims junior high had more pressure to succeed, which tells me a lot about the motivation to push the student to achieve more. If your student is average or nearing above average but is being placed in general classes, they will never be properly challenged at this school. J advise looking at private or referencing the Illinois report card for better school districts.
