Hillsdale takes pride in being an all-inclusive school with small learning communities, or SLCs for short, to enforce that. I actually really enjoyed being in SLCs because I got to know my classmates and teachers in more depth. Additionally, Hillsdale encourages student voice; there have been many walk outs and protests that are not only supported by the teachers, but are also planned by them. As a senior, I am able to say that I was very prepared for college. All the teachers and counselors work hard to answer any questions, help with college applications, and letter of recommendations. While most things at Hillsdale are good, it's not perfect. There are many facilities that don't work and still haven't been fixed since I came. Multiple soap dispensers, sinks, bathroom locks, etc don't function properly and despite many students' complaining, they still do not work. Many problems are small, but daily occurrences that you wouldn't notice until you have attended Hillsdale for a while.

I loved almost everything about Hillsdale. I had an above average number of interactions with the staff and administration while attending and there's no doubt in my mind that their goal is to help prepare students for life, whether that be in college, the army, or the workforce. Hillsdale's small learning communities provide a unique high school experience which has left me with a truckload of memories, friends, and lessons that stick with me forever. These small learning communities are foster an environment which make high school more personal and therefore relatable, which in turn makes the schooling more fun and effective.
I've been in school for about three years now, and I love it. High School is tough, but the thing I like about Hillsdale is how supportive it is. I've had a lot of challenges and they have always been helpful, supportive and understanding. This school is different from most other schools because although it is a public school, the environment isn't as overwhelming. We have a system called the "house system", like in Harry Potter, where all the kids are set in certain houses so they aren't as overwhelmed with all the students. I think it is the best way to get to know your teacher and peers. People are assigned a house their underclassmen years and then their upperclassmen years. People who go there are able to connect, bond and get close to people, and then branch out. We do simulations to try and experience different actives we learn about. Overall I really love the people and how we learn at Hillsdale.
