The school has very nice facilities and is considerably safe. Most (most!) of the teachers are great and they care about your success a lot. Academics here are solid. The special Ed programs are also advanced and quite popular. Though it's a mainly sporty school, there are lots of activities to join, even for more artsy people (great theatre and art program). Some things that it could improve on would be diversity and culture. Though it's nice to be in a close-knit community, the homogeneity can lead to easily being left out. However, I still really like my school. Most of the teachers try very hard to help each student out and I feel well supported there.
I have learned a lot while I've been a high schooler these past 4 years, but I've also learned that there's a lot of discrimination against females in this school. I may be a little bit biased, but there have been several incidents to where girls have been discriminated over guys. otherwise, the academics and sports have definitely kept me challenged and kept me going. the teachers help us learn from personal experiences that they have had in order to connect with us more.
Overall, my experience with Hillsboro High School has been okay. Hillsboro has shown potential, but there are many ways it could improve. Last year, students took a survey sent out by a student about school safety. Unfortunately, many, if not most students at HHS do not feel safe. This year, however, more thorough drills will be put into place. My hope for the school is better teacher/student relationships. Quite a few students feel out of place at school, and feel no connection with teachers and even fellow classmates. Currently, a group is working on these issues, but it may be some time before big changes occur.
