I’m a sophomore this year, but I give Hillsboro High School a 3 star rating. Although they have claimed that they get the most funding because they are the face of the Hillsboro School District, there are many times when it feels like the opposite. It is a “Californian-style” campus where each subject has it’s own building and students must walk outside to other buildings in order to get to their classes. Living in Oregon, it is cold and raining for at least 3/4 of the school year, but unfortunately there’s nothing you can really do about it. There are only about 3 easily accessible bathrooms on campus, as of which you have to walk long distances to depending on where your current class is. However during the year of 2020-21, I have noticed that teachers have expressed more care and concern for their students which I really appreciate.
I love the way this school was built because it gives you an idea and feel of how college/university campuses feel like such as having separate buildings for different subjects. The school spirit is pretty good. The teachers I have met are amazing, comprehensive, caring, & helpful teachers. My favorite place at this school is the library because the architectural design is nice but also it is quiet which is great when needing to focus on studying. The only disappointments that I have about this school is that over the years I have noticed that when it is lunch time, we only get 30 minutes to eat but when going to get lunch the lines are extremely long which leads to wasting almost half or even more of your time just to be able to eat. I think there should be a plan set to better manage the amount of kids that are getting lunch and reduce the amount of time to wait in line. Overall that's why I would rate Hilhi a 4/5 stars but I still love this school.
My highschool experience at Hillsboro highschool is rated a 3 out of 5. The pros about my experience include the amount of culture and diversity at this school. I was in the Spanish Emerson program through my entire school career since kinder and the highschool did a great job in keeping its students engaged and helped with the understanding of different cultures. The downside of my experience at this highschool was the poor preparation and understanding for career pathway classes. I didn’t quite get a clear understanding of what classes to forecast for, so I wasn’t able to sign up for classes that would best prepare myself for the future/college. Other than that, and having to work with a basketball coach that didn’t necessarily uplift the athletes, I wouldn’t have wanted to live my highschool career at any other school and am proud to be a Hilhi alumni.
