Highlands Middle School has some of the most engaging and dedicated faculty on the planet. The school offers innumerable resources to both students and parents in a variety of ways. Academically, students have the option to take French or Spanish, are given MacBooks for studying, have access to a well-kept library, and enjoy very progressive teaching methods. Additionally, Highlands provides a fun and enjoyable atmosphere for learning with fun dances and sports games. My favorite experiences during my time at Highlands was our Service Day and later our Team Building day. Both are done on half-days and give students the oppertunity to learn material that is not covered in the classroom.

The principal gave "bullying talks" that taught things like telling a bully "Stop. This is bullying. We don't do that at Highlands." which did absolutely nothing to stop bullying and just led students to treat the talks as a joke. I both saw and experienced bullying while at Highlands, and typically nothing is done unless it involves physical injury. Kids figured out a way to get into any student's email and grades, and the problem was only partially fixed. Many of my classmates were stuck up and didn't care much about others.
The physical security is dealt with well (doors are locked, visitors must sign in, etc.) but bullying is not taken very seriously and was often not dealt with when I went there. The nurses do what they can to help students. There have been a few incidents recently involving criminal charges against adults in or near the school, but the school makes sure to keep parents informed.
