I liked the environment and some of the teachers were a great support system. Highland offered many opportunities and resources for students to use. The students are incredibly welcoming and good workers. Highland has a group called “link crew” and they take in freshman and do activities with them to get them involved in school activities their first year. My experience with that was really good, I made amazing friends. Their quarter system was easy and it made it easier to stay on task. They offer a lot of help for low-income families and definitely take them into consideration. Their clubs and after school activities made me feel like I belonged and we did a variety of activities such as dancing, painting, and organizing events.

Overall, I've really enjoyed my time at Highland. I especially love how diverse the student body is. Much of the time, I can look around me at any given moment, and there are just as many or even more people of color than there are Caucasians. Aside from that, most of the teachers I've had are pretty good. Some are average and some are terrible, to be honest, but I'd say that a large majority of them are doing a great job. I've found a really great community in the theatre department at Highland, and everybody in it is extremely supportive and accepting. The facilities are average, though. One thing that definitely sucks is that there is no air conditioning in any of the rooms except the office and the computer labs :// The bathrooms and drinking fountains aren't always in very good condition either. But again, overall, I do really like Highland. I'll definitely miss it when I graduate in two months.
Diversity exists only in the school as a whole, but there is clear division between POC and white students in reg/advanced courses, and the school has done nothing to address it.
Certain sports and clubs get very little support from admin. Most clubs at highland are very underdeveloped or have nothing going on and students who actually want to do something significant, would have to do it outside of school. There are a few clubs that are actually are engaging, but it’s a pretty short list.
On the other hand, close to all of my teachers have been amazing, and they really care about their students. The IB classes are really great preparation for college and teachers do their best to make class enjoyable.
