While attending Highland High School, I learned a lot not only academically, but socially, manner fully, and patiently. The teachers and staff are a great influence to their students and are easy to connect with on a personal level. This is beneficial to student's as it makes it easier to communicate, open up, and ask questions when necessary without being scared. It is also great for building bonds with one another, and building student to teacher trust which effects school work positively. Reflecting on my years spent at Highland High School, I am feeling fortunate to have gained such great knowledge, and mostly such meaningful friendships with the staff and people I met along the way. I view Highland High School as a well structured, professionally administrated, academically successful, place to call school and home. This school and it's people own the title as the Second Family in my heart!
Looking back on my time at Highland, I've grown to be pretty grateful for some of the amazing teachers I had. Highland provided me with countless opportunities to pursue AP and dual enrollment courses, which I believe set me up for success in undergrad. However, my negative experiences with both the coaches and administration at Highland tainted my view of my high school years. Highland's hyper-competitive spirit only applies to sports the boosters and administration find "important" enough. The dance coach was a huge problem -- I think she's gone now? -- but the administration actively worked to cover up issues going on with the team/coaching staff. Additionally, I found that bullying goes pretty unchecked at this school, in part because of the wide class divide between students. Overall, I've found the administration to be pretty unethical and morally bankrupt, but if you value your kids getting a D1 football scholarship over becoming model citizens definitely send them here.
Amazing football program! Teachers are easy to get along with, but the teaching and preparing for college needs improvement. Administration strictness towards kids is nearly overwhelming for the kids, parents, and teachers. There is way too much lenience towards kids who are lazy in classes, and it seems unfair towards the ones who are always there to do their best and still get the same treatments. Safety is strong there with only one open door for students and parents to enter in after the first school bell has rung. And all people feel welcome in the school no matter what race, religion, or sex they are.
