Highland Elementary School Reviews

From the moment my son started at Highland, the school was warm and inviting. He has grown leaps and bounds each year and I attribute that to his highly invested teachers and the help of the parental community. The teachers are always inviting parents in to help, read, and practice math skills with children. My son loves school and can't wait to see his friends and classmates. This has been an awesome experience for our family and we are very excited that our youngest is just beginning at Highland this fall.

There is very little diversity within the student body. If you don't need much or have low expectations it's ok.

They have parent volunteer opportunities, some before or after school programs, and a so so lunch menu (I think they could cut out more junk food and sugar. Funnel cakes or sugary cereal for lunch? Pizza like foods 3 times in one week?).

As with a lot of other schools, there are good teachers, bad teachers and exceptional teachers. The class sizes are really large 25+. One year there were 31 kids per homeroom. When we moved into the district (2014) it had a greatschools.org rating of 10/10.

If your child needs specially designed instruction, the school will do the bare minimum they are required to do by law. They will continue with the same approach even when it shows to be ineffective. On their state report card half of children on reading improvement plans make no progress.
