I personally enjoyed Hickory as a high school, the teachers were great and well motivated to genuinely care for the students. Not every teacher was that way but there were definitely some diamonds, particularly in the english and art departments. Overall, a great school!

I thought many of the classes were hit or miss because of the instructor. I had fantastic chemistry, calculus, and human geography teachers, in part because they stimulated my interest to learn these subjects. Several of the AP courses, like chemistry and physics, were particularly difficult because the instructor didn’t really care about the students retaining the material. I had to relearn a lot of physics and chemistry when I got to college.
The high school touts it’s high graduation rate, but it hardly means anything significant if the courses are so easy to complete that the student has to put in an effort to fail. Two classes that come to mind are earth science and US history.
Some rules are enforced more than others. The school is very strict about tardiness, but very laxed when it comes to bringing tobacco products into the school.
Family. My high school experience was accelerated at Hickory High School because it felt like I was a part of a family. My experiences were great because I had amazing teachers who would work hard so I could excel in my studies. They were also available in the mornings and after school for tutoring and they cared about my grades. I was involved in many extra curricular activities which helped boost my confidence and gain new friends. I love my school and I would never have it any other way. Hawk yeah!
