Family. My high school experience was accelerated at Hickory High School because it felt like I was a part of a family. My experiences were great because I had amazing teachers who would work hard so I could excel in my studies. They were also available in the mornings and after school for tutoring and they cared about my grades. I was involved in many extra curricular activities which helped boost my confidence and gain new friends. I love my school and I would never have it any other way. Hawk yeah!

Hickory High School is an academically acclaimed school with high test performance and large offerings of AP classes. Most students are involved in band, chorus, or orchestra in addition to taking advanced courses and participating in a sport or after school club. The PTSA is very involved in fundraising for musical productions and other extracurriculars which allow students to explore their passions and build lasting connections with fellow students. The teachers are passionate about their subjects and truly care about instructing and guiding every student to pursue his or her goals.
While I have spent 3 years at the school. The school overall lacks anything super positive that will make you be happy to go back. The school has a pretty good teaching staff that is being held back by lack of funding and an overly conservative board of education that's more obsesses with making sure the students follow the rules than improving their test scores. Part of it is due to the student body being so incredibly divided that if somebody steps out of line their will likely be a fight. The school is also just not clean due to students lacking in personal hygiene, constantly vandalizing the school (particularly in the restrooms), and a janitorial staff that seems like they gave up for the most past due to how badly the students litter and how often the feel the need to write vulgar remarks on school property. I do appreciate some of the future education programs the offer like the AP, IB, and promise scholar programs.
