The school is smaller, but accepting of the LGBTQ+ community. The counselors also help as much as they can with the students who aren't academically doing well. The teachers also have been open with checking in on students and their grades if they are slipping. Not only is the food consistent with the ideal nutritions to keep all of the students up for the day, we also have a miniature "convenience shop" (called The Pit Stop) where all students can purchase diet sodas, chips, and even smoothies or popcorn chicken. I personally favor the library though. It is a common space for the seniors, like me, who are taking online independent studies or are looking for a quiet place to study for tests and exams.
My experience at Hesston High was positive as well as negative. If you don’t have the “golden” last name you will probably not fit in. Everything is very political and you are not always treated fairly. Sports especially are all based on who you know. The positives are that I have never felt unsafe in school. It is a very small town and rarely anything bad happens so I feel quite safe while in class. Most of the teachers I have had have all had one goal which is the benefit kids in the long run. You can tell Hesston is passionate about sending kids out in the world to be successful.
Hesston High School is a typical high school. There are tons of amazing teacher who are passionate about teaching and helping students do their best in life. I have never felt unsafe in my school or scared. It would be a school that I would recommend to people most definitely.
