When it was time to shop for a high school for our daughter, we were mostly considering private schools. As Herron kept coming up as a choice, we wanted to make sure the outcomes would rival the alternatives, so we looked very carefully. After four years of topnotch education, she's exploring merit scholarships at highly regarded universities. We couldn't be more pleased. The staff, the teachers, the students and the location have all been perfect for her. Everything about Herron is a supportive environment where teachers have gone above and beyond to push her to succeed. She feels like she's connected with other "nerdy" kids who get excited to learn (plenty who are stronger academically than she is, but never feel like there's a need to compete.) The school is small enough that she never worries that she won't spot a friend in her classes or at school events, but not so big that she gets lost in the shuffle.
Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Herron High School. I attended from 2014-2018. The academic's at Herron were incredible. I really feel like they gave me a good all around perspective to take college on. They 100% prepared me for college and how to think in a way that college professors are looking for in students.
One thing looking back on my time at Herron that I think could use improvement (and maybe this has improved since I've left) is the attitude/opinion of the administration from the students. The students often felt that the administration unfairly treated/enforced rules. Targeting certain students and letting others get away with the same things.

Herron High School is a great place to learn about college and life outside of school. Its rigor to build students from the ground up via classical learning lends to a sophisticated outlook on academics. This level of learning alone jumpstarts a student's experience of education. The longer classes invite students to engage in class and learn for themselves instead of for the good grades. Unless your student is interested in being the next Tom Brady (we don't have football), I would very much recommend giving Herron a shot!
One criticism i'd like to add is its lack of diversity in the faculty and how the faculty treats their students of colour. there have been quite a few instances where students of colour have been treated worse compared to their privileged companions. i've seen black students followed to class while white students easily can talk to their friends slowly in the halls ( and that's just the starting point. check out the instagram account @blackatherron to learn more).
