I had an overall good high school experience here. Most of the teachers will effectively help you understand the curriculum, and will give you extra help if you ask for it - they are typically very accommodating and many of them seem to like their job. (With a few exceptions, The more challenging classes are usually taught with more passion in my experience) The social culture tends to be very liberal with minimal racism and homophobia (from what I’ve experienced) and the student body does not tend to be very cliquey, friend groups are usually based around interests but it is easy to form class-specific friend groups. During my time at the school, it was under renovations, but the changes seem to be trying out well, and it will likely be a cleaner looking learning environment. I have, however heard about problems with the school’s mental health services, and while renovations were going on, there was a lot of noise and strange smells which were a hinderance to learning for some.
My experience at Herndon was great! I had very supportive teachers and there were good clubs for college planning. I would've liked to see more information given about college for immigrant or international students. I also would've liked for Herndon to offer more art/ creativity-inclined clubs or programs.
Herndon High School is highly diverse public school located in Fairfax County. During my years at Herndon high, there has been ongoing construction and renovation, projected to finish in 2020. Throughout the last for years, ongoing renovation has led my high school experience to be interesting and different. The newly constructed library offers a space to study and be productive. The extracurriculars offered at Herndon have something exciting for everyone. Starting from student activists leading a vegan club, to student athletes in the tennis club, after school extracurriculars are able to enhance any students high school experience. Students are encouraged to succeed, no matter their circumstances, which is shown by the various resources the school offers. The school understands students from Herndon High School come from different backgrounds, and their journey to their success may be different.
