Hermitage is a very astounding school. The place is filled with diversity, meaning different perspectives upon different ideas which leads to better and more creative thinking, learning, and teaching. The classes are being taught by some of the most elegant teachers in the state that are also coming from different ethnicities and nationalities as well. Students love to stay active and keep themselves up to date on everything that happens within the school year to keep a positive and proactive profile. I love this school extraordinarily and would definitely send new Virginia residents towards the home of the Hermitage Panthers!

While I like how inclusive this school is, it is faced with a number of shortcomings that hurt many students ability to succeed post in their post-high school lives. For me, I transferred there my sophomore through the middle of my parents divorce. I was told by my counselor at my previous school that she had been in contact with the counselor to help me through this difficult time. Not once did I ever meet with that counselor to help me manage the difficulties I was going through. Additionally, I had told the counselor several times I was unable to apply for drivers ed online and to enroll me manually. Yet, 3 times she failed to do so and had to resort paying hundreds of dollars to take it outside of school. The counselors and front office staff only take notice of students who either get in trouble frequently or were in the Humanities Center, severely disadvantaging many students like myself not in those two groups.
As someone who came from a very non-diverse and White middle school, I could say Hermitage was a big change. This is something I enjoyed about Hermitage; it made it less of a stereotypical high school with the jocks and the cheerleaders who were the "popular and hot" ones, that isn't a thing here, anyone can play football or cheer, regardless of their social status. I genuinely felt like I could be myself here and wear whatever I felt without feeling like I was trying to "be cool" or "popular." A lot of the sports teams are smaller, which gives them a better team feel and you really get to bond with your teammates. Most of the teachers were fine, besides what seems to be all the college-prep math teachers. I wish Hermitage had more school spirit and money to upgrade and fix things, which is why it gets 3 stars, and some kids don't know how to behave or respect authority. As I head to a pretty White college, I'm going to miss Hermitage and everyone and everything I learned going there.
