There are many great extracurricular programs at Heritage. The AICE program gives students a higher level of education and the chance to be accepted into the highest level of Bright Futures. Personally, I think this program is really helpful in preparing students for the real world. Since none of the exams within the program are multiple choice, students have to use logical reasoning and critical thinking instead of just memorizing facts. Students who attend Heritage also have the opportunity to take classes at Eastern Florida State College for free. This has saved me over $12,000 in tuition and books! However, as with any high school, there are some cons. While Heritage provides many opportunities for students who are willing to dedicate time, it is very easy to just barely pass and not accomplish much at all. Simply passing in this school, although very easy, does not prepare students for college. Also, the treatment of students can be very condescending at times.
Attending Heritage High School was honestly unforgettable, in a good way. Compared to other schools, I felt like the crowds of people were diverse and accepting towards one another. The students were warm welcoming, hardly ever mean, and there was always a group to join if somebody was looking for a friend. The teachers do care and were able to assist students before, during, and after school. Sometimes kids feel "dumb" if they ask the wrong questions, but in my opinion the teachers here make sure everybody is comfortable enough to speak up and be confident. The programs offered here were great! Sports Medicine, Automotive, Advanced Engineering Water & Technology, and CMAA. Every program was hands on and there were so many opportunities for volunteer hours to learn more about each program and to get insight about the different careers. Counselors were available to lend a hand about any questions any student hand and were friendly. The only downside about this school is bad school!
Honestly I really enjoyed my experience at Heritage High school. There were plenty of sports and clubs to choose from. Not to mention the sports medicine, Cambridge courses, dual enrollment, and aice courses that they provided. Because of the dual enrollment and great counselors, I am able to graduate with my high school diploma and AA degree in the same month. GO PANTHERS!
