While I will always remain biased on my opinion of my own high school, I still believe it lacks many aspects that are necessary. In terms of diversity and racial interactions, it seems that there is a huge disparity between students of color and white students. Multiple times I've noticed students of color will face worse punishments for disobedient actions, yet for those same actions white students don't face any disciplinary actions. Other than that, the faculty and staff is very open-minded and willing to help students at all times; the academic environment is challenging and invigorating!
My school, Heritage High, has been the perfect place for me to discover who I am. I’ve made the greatest friends, amazing relationships with all of my teachers, and experienced outstanding educational resources. My counselors have always been there for me and my peers, everyone is so kind to one another, and the overall environment at Heritage has always been so warm/safe for its students. One of my favorite things about my school is every Wednesday we have something called “pride time” where we go to an advisory class and watch videos or get taught a short life lesson, then all students are allowed to eat wherever they want in the entire building together. However, one thing I would change if I could, would be how often we have that. I think it would provide more opportunities for kids to see their friends more often and be more interactive seeing everyone around!
I wish we didn't have Pride Time anymore, and whole school lunch should be a thing everyday. Lunch should be longer, and I think it would be okay if we had all our classes everyday for 45ish minutes. I love almost all of my teachers, and I feel like the work we do is usually interesting and fun!
