As a senior at Herbert Hoover High School, I have experienced various opportunities to succeed. The AP courses in our school help me to learn the subjects that I am interested in at a college level. In fact, our school has the highest pass rate for AP exams in the entire school district! You can also enroll in classes offered by Glendale Community College to gain college credit. Besides academic involvement, there are a lot of clubs you can join for community service. The administration and the Student Body Council really help students find important resources, such as fee waivers for low income students. What needs to improve is the access of college scholarships for middle income students. Here at Hoover, we are responsible, respectful, and engaged! We are Tornadoes!

I liked that Hoover offered many AP Classes, a lot of clubs and activities. However, I didn't like the fact that the culture of the school wasn't like a typical high school. The students there were not spirited and didn't care about different school related events. Although there were some great teachers, many teachers didn't do their jobs at the best of their ability. They were disorganized, lazy and not on top of things. Many couldn't control their classrooms or didn't come to school half the time to control them. Some people in the administration were also disorganized. They had this illusion that Hoover is this amazing school and that there is nothing wrong with it. They were living in the past when Hoover was actually one of the best schools in the district. Because of this, the school just keeps getting worse. However, the school does allow student leaders to change whatever they want to. Hoover offers the most AP Classes which helps students get into great colleges.
Herbert Hoover High School offers a plethora of resources, experiences, and ways of learning. I find myself grateful to be a part of a community that is respectful, responsible and engaged. There is diversity among interests and backgrounds. The modern architecture and a lively environment paints a wonderful campus for students, there are not many negative attributes. The colors of purple and white are colors students are proud to display. With art and band being some of the best in the region, there are many things to admire. There are plenty of students on campus who follow their dreams after high school and several who don't take advantage of the resources offered. There is a lack of learning from a great percentage of students. The athletics are not at its finest. And as surprising as it may sound, they are only small drawbacks that hardly affect life as a Tornado. The school has the motto: 'Ohana,' which means family; a perfect definition of Hoover.
