Hoover High School has a great sense of community outside of the classroom, and we are known to exhibit a grand amount of school pride, but that is really where it ends. Inside of the classroom, you are taught the subject, then you review it, and then you take the test. For those who fall behind, the struggle to get back is large. There isn't enough time to have tutoring sessions for every individual, and that is probably due to the class sizes, because in my experience, the educators at this school take their job seriously, and seem to truly be in their profession for the development of children, but fall short in helping everyone because there are too many children who need assistance. We have a diverse group of students and that is accurately represented by our school and not for publicity. For the most part, the members in our community actively, and consistently take part in helping each other and the community.
In my experience, high school wasn't all that interesting. I made some great friends but the school itself wasn't anything spectacular. Just a normal Fresno public school. The AP coursework (especially the sciences) were actually more rigorous than college classes I'm currently enrolled in, but all 11 I took were manageable. Some of the teachers discourage taking multiple AP classes, but if you already know what you need for your degree, I'd encourage taking as many as possible solely for getting college credit from the tests.
I loved the teachers and I loved the academics.
The teachers here really care about their students and unconditionally push them to thrive and do the best they can. AP classes were stressful for all students but not so much for the people who had teachers that made them feel prepared.
I’ve always felt stupid but I learned so so much at Hoover about math, English, and government more than I ever knew in my life. I feel more knowledgeable more than before and felt prepared when I went to college.
The only thing I would complain about was that they didn’t give out too many resources for the theater program as much as sports. They always scheduled sports events and theater events on the same nights which meant not many people would come support the theater program. They would be quick to hand our resources for sports but could never find the money for theater.
