Overall, if you wanted to get a general head start in college or you still need time to decide on your major but still want to prepare, GECHS is for you. Unlike the magnet schools which are major specifc, GECHS prepares you by having you take most if not all your basics before graduation. However, if you are looking for experience in your specific field, those magnets are more for you. GECHS allows you to get accustomed to the college environment, while also keeping most of the essentials of a high school. Please note that since each grade consists of 100 or so students, rankings are incredibly valuable and competitive.

The school was a wonderful opportunity. The school is one of the most competitive schools in Laredo, TX. The opportunity to earn college credit hours while in high school opens more opportunities to the students when they choose to continue n a higher education and when they search for job opportunities. The teachers are attentive and supportive of the students, both in their goals and studies. The small quantity of students allow the teachers to work one-on-one with them and tailor help in their academic needs.
This approximately 400 student campus has become a home to not only me, but I am truly speaking about everyone too. This pandemic that the world is facing has made me realize things. Although I may not be able to enjoy my last months of high school I want to return the favor to my school with this survey. Hector J. Garcia Early College High School is the home of the mighty phoenix. It was started in some little portables located in Texas A&M International University. People in the Laredo Independent School District did not give it recognition like other schools. We did not have sports, dances, clubs, not even a campus. However, we kept pushing to show them our spirit. Not only are we an over achieving campus with many recognition, but we also managed to show everyone we are a team. We all work together from the students, teachers, principle. janitors, etc. All of us merge to make the school productive in every way.
