Both of my kids have had an amazing experience with this school. I’ve been impressed at how the teachers differentiate instruction and provide extra challenges to students who are ready for them. The students are encouraged to dive deep and explore concepts way beyond the surface level. Ive been impressed by the focus on leadership and community. We have seen the school through some big transitions over the years, and feel confident that the quality of education has only improved. The teaching staff is stellar—inspired and inspiring. Highly recommended.
Great community, teachers, and location. Fantastic for those students who didn't do well socially in public school. However, its academics are poor compared to other high schools in Austin – students of all levels are in the same classes up until 11th grade, so both the fastest and slowest learners are frustrated with the pacing and material. Most classes are spent goofing off online. The small class size can be great, but it can also be stifling. This is the place for you if you are smart but don't care much about academics, didn't do well in public school, are liberal, and like the idea of an authentic community. This is NOT the place for you if you want a rigorous education, sports/music/dance/drama/tech/etc. facilities, a thriving social life, and/or to blend into the crowd.
We have been part of this school since 2008, and we love it. The teachers are incredible, and our kids absolutely love going to school. We feel so lucky to be part of this community. The teachers have helped my children cultivate their intellect, their hearts, and their curiosities.
