I think that overall, Hazen has given me a fairly good high school experience. This is because I have been given lots of opportunities to explore different subjects, and possible career choices. This can be seen through the various types of classes that can appeal to many different people. Also, there has been a lot of clubs that attend to the multitude of interests within the student body, such as GSA, Asian student coalition, Gamer's Guild, etc. In addition, I appreciate the option to participate in running start because I think that this program is extremely helpful in giving students a jump start in their college education, and for students who may have some financial issues associated with the costs of college.

As a freshman last year, I felt like academic classes were fairly easy. Many say that the teachers aren't that great but from my perspective, they teach pretty well. All we had to do is pay attention and asked question, like one of my teachers said, "Those who talk the most, learns the most" - Todd Pollard. This is true if you're struggling in class, ask! Don't keep it to yourself last minute before a test. People may be scared to ask the teacher or even classmates. However, Hazen students are very opened and will listen to you even if they might not know the answers, so theres no need to be shy. Overall aside from academics, Hazen's clubs and sports are terrific! Very diverse and the administration help the school feel very safe! The school lunch is okay but you know.. its still school lunch.
Negatives:
- Almost all subjects are taught from a PC culture viewpoint, meaning a) the material is often politically charged/biased left, & b) students learn more about racial injustices than significant scholastic subjects (ex. Washington's importance in American history, the Holocaust, reading To Kill a Mockingbird). The only exception to the second point (b) is if one takes AP classes.
- Recently there were safety concerns at school regarding shooting threats (which were resolved).
Positives:
- The fine arts department is the best in the district. The choir program has been recognized as one of the best in the state, & the growing marching band program puts on wonderful performances. Drama & Orchestra are also available.
- Hazen has some excellent teachers, including all math teachers who teach Math Analysis - AP Calc B-C, all AP English teachers, AP History & Government teachers, & most AP Science teachers.
