Their preschool program teachers are fantastic. So we stayed on for 1st grade. I wish we had not. Our kindergarten teacher was horrible. I thought that was my take on her because she was always short and rather rude with me but i never said anything to my kid. But once we left at the end of the year (and only after my little one was sure was not returning) i found out from my kid that “my teacher was not nice”, “my teacher didn't like me at all”, “my teacher had favorites and everyone would talk about it”. A child who was excelling at preschool was struggling to get even “up to grade level” mark with her. Now we are in a new school with warm and supportive teachers, and have excelled beyond grade level already in 1st grade and i have a child who skips home from school every day and loves doing her work. Not someone who’s only answer to how was school was a miserable “fine”. If you want your kid to love learning, avoid this teacher at all cost.
This school is filled with Persians, and you will feel a bit left out if you aren’t. I am not Persian sometimes felt left out because of that. My classmates would make jokes or talk about someone in Farsi so the teachers don’t understand and I would always have to ask my friends to translate. I still had fun at the school but I just didn’t feel apart of the community.Especially because every Persian at the school either was long-time family friends or was related in some way. The teachers at Hawthorne care about their students and want them to succeed, which was comforting. Hawthorne always had the highest academic scores compared to the other three K-8 schools in the district. If you are going to go to the school I suggest you get involved somehow to better your experience there.
Only good teachers are stem and math teacher who got fired. NO diversity. Most students are Persian or jewish. A lot of bullying.
