Hawaii prep has been a ohana, or a community where I feel like home for the past number of years, however recently the teachers have lost enthusiasm to teach and the students have lost the tenacity to learn. In addition, although it is a college prep school, there is no standardized testing prep to prepare you for college. Not to mention I never learned proper grammar until my junior year. All that said the food is great, some teachers are amazing, and the location is safe. The location allows students to be protected in beautiful nature and explore what Hawaii has to offer. The food has had a major improvement this past year with the new Flik dinning, and it is delicious! Overall I love HPA but there Is defiantly room for improvement:)

Far and away one of the best schools in the country. If could rate by alumni endowments, college placements, alumni careers, would be better! How many high schools have university students earning college credit in their class rooms? Check out the curriculum... nowhere has classes comparable. In the 60's HPA had more PHDs per student than any university in the world. One of the first 200 Presidential students. One of the richest men in USA, top jurists, top medical researchers many other best of. A very small school and very long on academics. Also for so small very good in sports for their student body size. Ethnic diversity... look at their student body... and given an award for one of the worlds greenest/nontoxic buildings in the WORLD enteredy universities and goverments... anybody and they finished in top 3 as I recall.

I have attended Hawaii Prep since kindergarten. I am now Senior and I’ve loved all 13 years of it! HPA is no normal high school, it’s also an international college preparatory boarding school with diversity from all over the world! I’ve gotten the chance to meet people from Asia, Europe, Africa, South America, and Canada! It’s location is also unbeatable in the foothills of Waimea, a green, lush, cute little town on the Big Island of Hawaii. This school has provided me with endless opportunities and connections, from turtle tagging to camping in Waipio valley and the Volcano National Park. Our Natural Energy Lab has also given me all the technology I could possibly need to explore my passions in math and science. I’ve learned how to use and operate a 3D printer, Lazer Cutter, soldering irons, and much much more. I would recommend this school to any person of any back ground and first language. The majority of the school speaks multiple languages.
