From Hathaway Brown School

Hathaway Brown is a school for girls and so much more! It’s a school for scientists and writers and artists and budding entrepreneurs. It’s a training ground for athletes and dancers and musicians and actresses. It’s a place where young people are empowered to ask questions, challenge conventions, and explore opportunities.

Since 1876, HB has given girls the tools needed to confidently embrace all the possibilities that exist for them beyond our campus. In addition to the superior academic preparation they receive, HB students can apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to their lives. They know how to test theories, advocate for themselves and others, implement creative solutions, and lend a hand where it’s needed. At HB, girls of all ages and boys in our Early Childhood program are encouraged to take risks, stretch their imagination, make mistakes, collaborate, and start over when necessary.

And everything we do is guided by our motto: — We Learn Not for School, But for Life.

I thank HB for the confidence, courage, and determination that I possess as a young woman in today's world. As I embark on my journey to college this fall, I say with the upmost confidence that I am more than prepared because of the education I received at this school. Its students have inspired me and its faculty and staff have pushed me to excellence. I'm grateful to have this place to call my second home!

While there awesome good things about this school there are also many bad and average things about this school. Some of the teachers are great and some of them are not. Its easy to get overwhelmed and stressed here. There is so much pressure that comes along with this school and sometimes people break under it. There is too much homework to go along with sports and other extra circulars you might do. Last but not least teachers often dont coordinate with each other to make sure they are all not scheduling their stuff on the same day. When you have 3 different tests and a couple different quizzes on one day its unlikely that all of them will come out with great grades. Although these things aren't too great, the teachers make an effort to meet with their students when needed and the school counselor is always here when you need to let it all out and cry until you have no more tears.
Hathaway Brown School offers many opportunities to explore your interests. Most of the upper school is in an older part of the school and has no A/C. The teachers are really amazing. Good resources and creative programs like Science Research & Engineering where I worked in a chemistry laboratory at Case Western Reserve University. I learned a lot a was able to write my own manuscript, co-author an article for a scientific journal, and co-sign for a patent application. I also wrote articles for the school’s magazine, played soccer, softball, and lacrosse, and completed a Creative Arts designation in Ceramics.
