Harvard-Westlake truly changed my life. Since coming to H-W as a new seventh grader and still, I have had experiences impossible anywhere else. The competitive nature of the community pushes me to go further than I thought I could, and I have become interested in so many topics that I never thought I would be interested in. Due to the large class sizes, I have met and made so many friends with similar interests as I have, and many with different interests that opened me to even more experiences. If you are considering applying, there is definitely something for you here, and you will not regret your decision!
I have often wondered if Harvard-Westlake was the right choice for me, but when I take into account all of the pros and cons from the past four years, I'd say the pros most definitely outweigh the cons. Harvard-Westlake is hard, no doubt about it, but I feel as though it is the best high school education I could have ever asked for in terms of preparing me for college. Harvard-Westlake is so involved in the college process, which is something that most people cannot say about their school. When you go to HW there is really no easy way out, you are forced to work and study hard, which is an element that has definitely helped me grow as a person and is something that I know will benefit me for the rest of my life. If you can get in and can afford it, go! It is an amazing place, even though you may not think so all of the time you are there.
Exceptional exceptional exceptional. Between the rigorous academics, intense athletics, and wide variety of creative electives at immediate access, Harvard-Westlake provided me every opportunity in every respect to cultivate my talents and grow through adolescence to adulthood. If you want your child to have the opportunity to discover their passion and thrive in their pursuit of it, they'd make a fine addition to HW!
