Harpswell Community School Reviews

Harpswell Community School reflects all the blessings and eyesores of the town it serves, and since Harpswell is a small, coastal lobstering town there is definitely a close knit community among the families. However, there are some things you should know before sending your kindergartener here. First of all, the classes are mixed with special education students, and this includes the reactive ones. If this weren't enough, when a kid reacts and starts tearing up a classroom, the teachers aren't to touch him, and can do nothing more than quietly evacuate the classroom and peer the glass. Also, when my younger brother attended the school the teachers were complete food Nazis. In the classrooms, the kids weren't allowed to have nuts (due to allergies) or junk food (in any quantity), this includes but is not limited to, Hershey's Kisses, cookies, brownies and about everything else except Fruit rollups which are filled with ADHD causing red dye #40 (don't ask me why they allow this). Oh! and did I mention the PTO? The PTO here doesn't seem to have any financial responsibility whatsoever. Whenever a sum of money is collected from a bake sale or such, the group spends it almost instantaneously on playground #1000000. All and all, if your child can survive the madness, (without becoming it), he/she will make many close friendships that will likely last through high school and the P.E teacher is awesome. Otherwise, Woodside Elementary is a much better school, both the academics and the facilities are superior and they will teach your children how to unicycle.
