Harmony is located in an old stone building that, although beautiful, could use upkeep. Teachers are each in charge of designing their own classrooms and often come in over the summer to paint, rearrange and design. It gives each room it's own character and I personally really like that. Harmony heat but not air conditioning and that is occasionally an issue at the beginning of the year. Windows are always open when weather permits. Computers are outdated but teachers are not. Tutoring is always available and most every teacher is available for college help, they really work with you one on one. Parents are required to be involved and students must complete so many volunteer hours a year. Students are not forced to volunteer through Harmony however it can be with any organization. The reason for this is really for the students themselves and when it comes to applying for colleges you're glad they made you.
Review Harmony School
Harmony is a small independent school, with around 200 students from preschool through 12th grade in a democratic learning environment without grades or class ranking, but with emphasis instead on project-based learning. Harmony's form of discipline is about getting to the source of the problem. Student Advisory committee is made of 2 students from each grade and 2 teachers. When a student has a problem like not coming to classes or conflict with another student it is brought to student advisory to resolve and in some cases, formulate an appropriate punishment.
Because Harmony is a small private school where admission is not based around the ability to pay, finances are limited. Harmony does not have a sport team and a lack in after-activities. There are however plenty of options for work with other organizations through Harmony. The staff seems to have endless connections within the community and will do their best to help you pursue your interests.
