I believe that within the SPPS district Harding have the best teachers and staff who helps student academically and with their personal matters. For example, Koua Yang. A side from being a social studies teacher and tennis coach, each and every of his students see him as their counselor. Yang is someone who many students can trust with their personal issues, even if Yang does not know that student personally he opens his heart and does his best to understand that student. Throughout my fours years at Harding, I have become closer to Yang and he has inspired me so many ways.
Another teacher that I admire a lot is Erik Brandt. As the IB coordinator at Harding and English teacher, he does an excellent job at motivating students to strive for a higher education. I remember going back to Harding after graduating and told him about my personal issues: being a Hmong girl is difficult and I wish I wasn't born as Hmong girl. Brandt said in objection, "Don't say that. I know you are proud to be who you are. You went to Laos for a month, for a reason". He made me realize that I am truly proud for who I am despite of cultural difficulties. Lastly, Jaime Shady, a "college" counselor. Although, it's only Shady's second year at Harding. I felt like he created a bond with all students who needed college help. As an alumni of Harding, I had a hard time socializing with teachers about my academics after high school, especially getting help from Shady but after one conversation with him, he remembers who I am and offers so many opportunities for me. Shady has never put me or any other students down before and I believe he will never do so. Overall, all teachers and staff at Harding are great in many ways and have their own way of helping students. Harding High School is blessed to have such great teachers who care about each and every of their student. I am proud to be a Knight!
