I came to Harding Charter Preparatory High School in 2019 as a freshman with no friends. I did not know what to expect, but I knew it would be a significant change from my previous school based on Harding's excellent academic reputation. I was quickly welcomed with open arms and taken under the wings of the teachers. I was not treated as just another student but felt a personal connection with everyone. Harding has been my home for the past four years, and I have loved every minute of it. The workload was sometimes intense, but it was all worth it and has paid off. Thanks to Harding Charter Preparatory High School, the teachers, and the students, I now have 13 college acceptances and will attend postsecondary education for free. As a band member and captain of the soccer and cross-country teams, I have left my mark at Harding, and Harding has left its mark on me.
For Harding, my personal experience is that it is better then most schools to prepare ourselves academically. However, being a smaller school, and a charter, we do not have many clubs and classes that are just for entertainment or enjoyment. We focus high amounts on academics instead of anything else, and some teachers are sometimes, not the best terms in teaching or staying at top of everything. We have a great amount of diversity, and mostly, a good high school culture where people enjoy events and chatting with each other.
Overhyped. The administration only cares about test scores, and they brainwash the students into believing that AP Classes and tests are the only way to be successful in high school and college. Also, many of the students are completely unaware of the many opportunities that their school fails provide that other, less stressful, better funded, and more accessible schools provide. Ex: Concurrent enrollment and VoTech/ Career Centers for High schoolers for free. The student population is diverse, but not so much for the staff population, leaving the students of color feeling discriminated against by the staff. Students who thrive artistically often are overlooked and are not given the same opportunities as the students who thrive academically; due to the fact that they mainly care about the statistics of test scores, college admissions, and being the number one school in the state. This builds the accumulative attitude by most of the staff that anything that is not AP is not relevant.
