Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy has drastically changed my educational life. From the start, I was excited and ready for the challenge. This highschool can be tough academically but will definitely expand your capacity of knowledge. Rigorous AP classes, Challenging honors classes, mid college student at lahc and constantly studying for sat and test, Can all be DONE with the right time management. Good Time management, dedication And commitment is what I have obtained from my school. With the most involved teachers, dedicated counselors and staff, my high school couldn’t have gotten any better! Definitely a high enrichment school, where so many life opportunities are open...
I love how involved the school is in making sure each student is excelling to the best of their ability. The teachers are easy to message on Schoology (online platform where students are updated about their school, grades, courses, can message teachers and administration) etc. The school, now that it is virtual, the academic rigor has decreased due to the repercussions of the pandemic. This can also make students fall behind in the coursework and no plan is really "underway" for next semester. Exams are usually done on the student's own time, and that makes students fall back on their notes without really studying. It makes other students who are used to studying for exams and want to prepare for higher education anxious because courses are teaching material twice as fast with fewer instruction time. I would usually wait after class to ask questions to my teacher about an exam or the homework assignment, but now, its harder to do with the virtual space. I hope this is resolved.
The high school has a recipe for success into admittance into college and obtaining your AA degree at the completion of high school prerequisites . They factor in AP classes and college classes each year which prepares the students for what lies ahead.
The one thing I would change is the student’s involvement or a re-assessment in identifying if the type of classes enrolled (AP or college) can be handled by the individual student. High school is a time of change. The students drive changes. Personality and physical changes occur. Each student is unique and not a cookie cutter. So, the same student in Freshman year goes through so many changes that I feel it needs to be re-assessed yearly or mid-enrollment.
