Hampton High School Reviews
Rating 4.05 out of 5 237 reviews
At Hampton High School, I felt academics overall were a strong suit. On average, teachers were very helpful and classes were a good combination of challenging but manageable. The social aspect was a bigger difficulty in my experience, with the school being overall very closed-off and almost like a bubble. I think that Hampton needs to incorporate more programs and events that welcome students of all genders, races, and sexuality.
Don't care to deliver a speech on dress code in academic seminar: you will be called the f-slur. Don't care to walk past athletes as they wait for their bus: you will hear overlappings of the n-word, followed by laughing. Or a troll-like girl calling you both these words as she heckles you in the hall. The only escape from the bigotry and hate is to report them to Safe2Say, the anonymous reporting app. Oh wait. I tried that and the police called both my parents and the parents of the assailant. So much for anonymity. In a word, this school is just flawed and full of hate. I hope that one day people don't call each other the f-slur, the n-word, or refer to me as a d*ck sucking wh*re. I hope that one day people will be accepting no matter their background.
It was overall a good experience. I received good education, and many people I met were very friendly. There are some downsides though. It may sound silly, but Hampton is very bad at regulating temperature in their schools. It will be 10 degrees outside, and it will feel like 50 inside. I am not alone on this, everyone else is shivering around me as well. I have Raynaud's, meaning my fingers and toes go numb easily in cold. My fingers often turn white in school. Unless it is 70 or above outside, it is unbearably cold inside the building. It makes it impossible to concentrate on class since my body naturally prioritizes my health. If I am in pain because of the temperature, I am not able to focus properly on anything else besides keeping myself warm.
